Needed to prevent deletion
[edit]- Moved from User_Talk:Otheus
Well, I went ahead and fixed some of the problems I saw with the article myself.
But here are other things which need attention:
- The infobox states that the band is no longer active, yet the article makes no mention of the band breaking up.
- The only hint of the band being notable is that they were signed for one album with Spinefarm Records otherwise they don't seem notable. Notability needs to be establised in accordance with WP:MUSIC.
- The article needs a members section, What was the final line-up? Who were former members? What instruments did each member play?
- Some better external links would also be nice.
I'm hoping someone who actually knows the band will fix the article. Otherwise it's going to get nominated for deletion or just left there, a bad stub and all. --Leon Sword 23:06, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- According to WP:MUSIC a band needs to meet only one of a list of criteria to satisfy notability. The fact that Gates of Ishtar were signed to Spinefarm should be enough, since they've signed many notable artists.
- Unfortunately, I don't know a great deal about this band, but if we want it to get past stub-status then immediately reverting minor edits that satisfy some standard of plausibility just because they're unsourced at the moment is not the way to go. (Attn:Slysplace).See Wikipedia:Revert_only_when_necessary Let's get something up here first and worry about thorough citations later. Because the band hasn't been active for about 10 years, it's going to be difficult to get ahold of printed material on them, but there are a number of online reviews which attest to Gates of Ishtar's black metal influence, as well as their similarity to Dissection, what I'd consider to be a prime example of blackened death metal. Since, however, the blackened death metal article apparently has issues of it's own, I'll add melodic black metal instead.

- http://www.tartareandesire.com/bands/Gates_Of_Ishtar/699/ (genre listed as black metal)
- http://www.blackmetal.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=search&item=IR027&type=store&template=archival ("masters of new Blackened, melodic grind")
- http://www.blackmetal.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=search&item=SPI31CD&type=store&template=archival ("This is stirring, anthemic Black/Death Metal sure to satisfy discriminating seekers of both quality & extremes in their Blackened Metal") --Misfit (talk) 13:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Source one (user reviews can't be used) and source two are both unreliable sources and I'm unsure of the other one. Try to find something else because I know of their blackness. Actually their genre should be taken off until a source is found... sorry it's how it works here. Content will be contested at any time and we will need reliable sources to back it up. Actually I'm unsure of the second now. FireCrystal (talk) 16:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
