Cross Border Xpress edits

Hi EG, I made one change to your edits, i.e. reinserted the image numbers as they are used in different sections as reference points meaning they are used to identify and compare the different airport designs used over the years. Thank you Rnieders (talk) 16:36, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

@Rnieders: I understand. Image numbers aren't usually used on Wikipedia, so that was kind of confusing. Thanks for telling me. epicgenius @ 23:26, 29 March 2016 (UTC) (talk) 23:26, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for changing the aspect ratios, I would like to ask for your knowledge on Wikipedia. I tried to insert hyperlinks within the article and never succeed, e.g. the reader could click on "Image 1" and be taken to it instead of scrolling back up to look for it. Again, thank you for the changes, Rnieders (talk) 14:56, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
@Rnieders: I suggest adding Image 1 (a # sign and then the section name as the link) whenever you want to link to image 1. Then Image 1 can have a section anchor using anchor, e.g. Image 1. epicgenius @ 15:00, 30 March 2016 (UTC) (talk) 15:00, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Again thank you for your help, I will try it on the sandbox page this weekend. Hope I do it right, all the best, Rnieders (talk) 00:35, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for spending so much time inserting the anchors. I added anchors to images 13 and 14. The section on "Construction Begins" I started the project in 1989 and initiated the land negotiations in 2006 with the investors who acquired and built the project, and technically was involved until the land negotiations closed in 2008. After that I never got a call back from them and was consciously excluded from the project. No one wanted the article in Wikipedia. I do appreciate the amount of time you spent on this. All the best Rnieders (talk) 19:24, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
@Rnieders: No problem, I'm glad to help. And thank you for all your work to the article thus far. I just want to note that even if the other parties didn't want the article on Wikipedia, the notability criterion still applies to the project, so another person would have eventually written the article anyway. epicgenius @ 19:31, 1 April 2016 (UTC) (talk) 19:31, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Ironically, of the 4 original partners, I am the last one left. Dan Malcolm, Rodolfo Ramos and Gilberto Valenzuela, all have passed. I am still trying to get the DEA the release one picture showing the drug tunnels from the Tijuana airport to the US warehouses. I was at the Tijuana airport when the first tunnel was "discovered" in 1993 and the last one was 2015, not much has changed. Thank you for your help Rnieders (talk) 19:53, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Grand St Subway Station Neighborhood Location

Not debating the Chinatown location of Grand St subway station, however, do you really believe it's not in the neighborhood of the Bowery as well? Wikipedia's own entry on the Bowery lists the neighborhood's borders as, "East 4th Street and the East Village to the north; Canal Street and Chinatown to the south; Allen Street and the Lower East Side to the east; and Little Italy to the west." Grand St subway station is on Grand and Chrystie which falls within the borders of the Bowery neighborhood as defined in the article. Additionally, if you look at the borders of the Bowery neighborhood on Google Maps, you can see that Bowery station, Grand St station and 2nd Ave station are all within the neighborhood. Not arguing that these wouldn't crisscross with other neighborhoods, but if we're going to use our own and other commonly accepted definitions of the neighborhood's borders, I don't see how one could say they don't fall within the confines of the Bowery. caz | speak 20:53, 4 April 2016 (UTC) I'll hold off on editing Grand St and 2nd Ave subway pages until we reach consensus, but my view is that they should both mention that the stations fall within the neighborhood of the Bowery in addition to the other neighborhoods we currently mention. caz | speak 20:58, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

@Cazador: I think that the Bowery neighborhood is an interesting case. Some say it's a neighborhood, while others say it's only a street. The Bowery station is clearly in the Bowery neighborhood, but I think Grand Street and 2nd Avenue are both disputed occurrences, as neither are on Bowery street itself. So, for now, we should stick with "Chinatown," "Lower East Side," or "East Village." I'll have to ask for opinions at WT:NYCS, though. epicgenius @ 21:03, 4 April 2016 (UTC) (talk) 21:03, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll follow along there and post this there as well. I think there's a case to be made that the Bowery isn't a cohesive neighborhood within the borders Wikipedia & Google give, which is why you feel it may not be appropriate to include the latter two stations as within the confines of the Bowery. However, I don't think we can say that while also leaving the stated borders of the Bowery neighborhood in the Bowery article untouched without the pages contradicting each other. caz | speak 05:08, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

License plate serial formats with stacked letters

I've just seen the edits you made to Vehicle registration plates of Maryland and Vehicle registration plates of Indiana, regarding serial formats with two letters stacked one on top of the other.

I fully understand what you were trying to do here... but the problem is that the letters are so small, they're actually quite hard to read.

I'm not asking you to undo these edits or anything, mind - it's just an observation.

Regards, Bluebird207 (talk) 20:16, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

@Bluebird207: Would 75% font be better? I'll go change it if you want. epicgenius @ 21:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC) (talk) 21:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
To be perfectly honest... I do think that simply putting <small> tags around the letters in question, and separating them with forward slashes, is a better way than most.
It's clean, it doesn't use too many bytes, it works well for letters that are stacked vertically and for those that are stacked diagonally - and it also works well in the rare cases where there are more than two stacked letters, like on some of Nevada's non-passenger plates.
But that, of course, is just my opinion - which you are perfectly entitled to disagree with. Safe to say, not everyone can or ever will agree which is the best way to display a serial format that contains stacked letters.
And again, I'm not asking you to undo your edits. I may not fully agree with them, but I do fully understand and respect your intentions here.
Sorry that it's taken four days to get back to you, BTW - I've been busy in the meantime.
Thanks and regards, Bluebird207 (talk) 20:32, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
@Bluebird207: No problem. Thanks for explaining why you prefer the <small></small> tags. I think three stacked letters can be accommodated using a similar syntax as the two letters can. epicgenius @ 00:19, 6 April 2016 (UTC) (talk) 00:19, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Wednesday April 13, 7pm: WikiWednesday Salon NYC and Mini-Video Opportunity

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan.

Do you want one Edit tab, or two? It's your choice

How to switch between editing environments
Part of the toolbar in the visual editor
Click the to switch to the wikitext editor.
Part of the toolbar in the wikitext editor
Click the pencil icon to switch to the visual editor.

The editing interface will be changed soon. When that happens, editors who currently see two editing tabs – "Edit" and "Edit source" – will start seeing one edit tab instead. The single edit tab has been popular at other Wikipedias. When this is deployed here, you may be offered the opportunity to choose your preferred appearance and behavior the next time you click the Edit button. You will also be able to change your settings in the Editing section of Special:Preferences.

You can choose one or two edit tabs. If you chose one edit tab, then you can switch between the two editing environments by clicking the buttons in the toolbar (shown in the screenshots). See Help:VisualEditor/User guide#Switching between the visual and wikitext editors for more information and screenshots.

There is more information about this interface change at mw:VisualEditor/Single edit tab. If you have questions, suggestions, or problems to report, then please leave a note at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback.

Section name

Hi there, Epicgenius. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to rename "Chinatownscape" as "Street Scene", but I've changed it back for now as several other articles are redirecting to this section title and there is no anchor. Also, the "scape" concept goes along with several other genres of articles as well. If you feel strongly about the name change, please just create the appropriate anchor, thanks. Best, Castncoot (talk) 14:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

@Castncoot: Thanks for your opinion. In that case, I will just create the anchors. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 14:38, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks (modified slightly, to "Streetscape"). Best, Castncoot (talk) 14:49, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi Epicgenius, one more thing - there is a typo in the tables in these three articles regarding New York City's figure - it should read 573,388 and not 573,348. I see that you've bundled the table into a different template, but I'm not sure where to access that to edit and make this numerical correction. In any case, if you could please correct this number, that would be appreciated. Thank you! Best, Castncoot (talk) 12:44, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
@Castncoot: I have fixed the template NYC Chinatowns. Regards, epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 13:41, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
I saw that, thank you! Best, Castncoot (talk) 17:13, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Westport station

Hey Epic

Just querying your move of Westport station (Connecticut)Westport (Metro-North station). This was decided in March, as part of a unanimous multi-move request at Talk:Westport station (New York). I don't think this should have been unilaterally moved back without any other move request. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 21:10, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

@Amakuru: Sorry, I didn't see the move discussion. Should I move the article back? I should probably start a Metro-North RM for other articles in Category:Metro-North Railroad stations. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 21:12, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I think probably moving it back is best. My guess is that most of the articles on Metro-North should be at (for example) Beacon Falls station, rather than Beacon Falls (Metro-North station) as at present. Maybe wrap them all into a big RM, because you're right that it's inconsistent for now. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 21:15, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
@Amakuru: I've reverted my own move. I will start an RM later. Regards, epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 21:17, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
Cheers!  — Amakuru (talk) 21:19, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Automarking by a Wikipedian?

Hi there,

I coming from the special:log/patrol where i have seen you automatically "marked" an edit. I wonder what does that mean. Perhaps you can help me out with some questions?

What does a marked page mean, who can mark it, and why should they be marked?

Does your edit allways automatically "mark" the page you edit? Does this indicate your edits are confirmed or "preapproved" in some way? Is there some sort of status to be gained, so edits are automatically "marked"?

This status puts you in line with bots, but prehaps you have some formal role in English wiki (do you?). can a regular wikiped ever obtain such a status on any of the Encyclopedia's you know?

Hope you can help me Many thanks 12:41, Mateo (talk) 01:22, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

@Mateo: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. "Patrolling" a new article just means that your edits have been reviewed and approved by an autoconfirmed user (i.e. someone who has 10 edits and 4 days' experience). Basically, someone decided whether your new article should be immediately kept or sent for deletion. There is no process for "patrolling" regular edits. I hope this helps. Regards, epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 01:33, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
We are also all volunteers. No one plays a "formal" role except Wikimedia Foundation staff. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 01:36, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
OMG MORE QUESTIONS:
Are all edits being "reviewed and approved", or just new articles?
If the critirea for being autoconfirmed is just 10 edits and 4 days, does this mean i'm autoconfirmed?
What's the difference between Marking and Automatic marking?
Thank you so much for answering! I would reward you with a barnstar but being a noob i don't know how to do it...
And BTW in Formal i mean democratically eleceted by the community to preform a duty. I wonder, do you know weather English Wiki have regualr Wikipedian, nomimated by a moderator, to preform some king of duty?
(All of these questions has a purpose, i promise).
Thanks again,

01:48, 16 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mateo (talkcontribs) Mateo (talk) 01:50, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

@Mateo: 1) No, just new articles. 2) Yes, you are autoconfirmed. 3) Automatic marking only applies to autopatrolled users. Any autoconfirmed or confirmed user can patrol an article. Regards, epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 01:52, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok then, who patrols edits that are not new articles, and how? Mateo (talk) 01:57, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
@Mateo: Do you mean Pending changes? One must have the Pending changes reviewer user right or be an administrator. There is no need to patrol edits other than page creations. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 01:59, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Do all edits become pending for a reviewer to mark them? If so, What differes them from "recent cahnges?" And most importantly, are there parallel Autopatrolled users for edits as well? Mateo (talk) 02:12, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
@Mateo: 1) No, only pages that are pending changes protected get reviewed. 2) Pending changes are not the same as regular changes; they are visible to logged-in users, but not to logged-out users until a reviewer approves them. 3) No, any confirmed user can patrol a new page.
I actually have to go now, but I will write more about this tomorrow. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 02:17, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

WP:STATIONS request

Hi Epicgenius! I've been working on restructuring the WP:STATIONS main page (and also updating it as a result of this RfC), and I think the page's new "structure" is better than it was. But that's not what my request is about! – Could you please take a look at the (new) 'Article body' and 'Article template example' sections? Both of these sections look to be horribly out of date, and not reflective of how current train, etc. station articles are generally structured these days, and I figured you probably see as many train station articles as any editor, so I thought I'd ask you to look those sections over and and see if you can figure out how to update them. (P.S. If you can think of anyone else that should look those over, please give them a holler too!) Thanks in advance! --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:44, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

@IJBall: No problem. And should I ping the users listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stations#Participants, too? (The function doesn't work with pings to too many people.) epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 22:46, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure I'd 'ping' all of them – but maybe the names you recognize as being pretty active in the area. I'd advise maybe pinging them about this from WT:STATIONS too... --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:49, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
@IJBall: Unfortunately, I can't take a glance at all of these users who've been active recently. I'll look later, though. In the meantime, I reformatted a few sections. epicgenius, presented by reddit.com/r/funny (talk) 23:00, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Your signature

Hi Epicgenius, though the specific policies are not crystal clear, your inclusion of a commercial website in your signature does not seem appropriate as a means to identify you. WP:NOT and WP:SPAM mostly capture the spirit of why this isn't a good idea. Please review these and let me know if you have any questions. — xaosflux Talk 03:15, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

@Xaosflux: I understand. I didn't realize that including a website's name might violate policy (though I know an external URL definitely does). Thanks for letting me know; I've changed my signature accordingly. epicgenius: unlimited epicness (talk) 19:37, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for addressing - it is not very clear but you can imagine how it could creep if everyone started including commercial pages on the sigs; for what it's worth your new signature is just fine. — xaosflux Talk 19:41, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Having something on your userpage is OK for the most part - you may like: . — xaosflux Talk 19:44, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
@Xaosflux: Thank you for the response. I've read WP:SIG#EL, and I can see where my former signature can be construed as advertising. I hope my new signature doesn't cause problems for other users, though, especially the "unlimited" part (this, and the Reddit URL, was because I wanted to have a slogan on my signature). Anyway, thanks again. I think I'm going to put the Reddit userbox on my userpage right now. epicgenius: unlimited epicness (talk) 19:46, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Almost ready

I see you have been working on John Francis Hylan, which is good. I am itching to get back. Maybe I will take a break. You will see, however, if you look at Archibald Cox that I learned how to do the [a] thing from you, which is part of the reason it has taken me so long to finish the Cox article. Once you have the freedom to do text notes, then there is no end to the minutiae you can add. Which you can see by comparing the current version of Archibald Cox to the version that exited before I began in February. As soon as the agony of Cox is over, I will be back to Hylan adding a similar level of minutiae. Maybe we can get a GA out of old Hylan. The problem with my ADD is that I keep jumping from one project to another. I figured Hylan had to be beefed up because I was about to do John H. McCooey, which I only stumbled on because I was trying to finish Irwin Steingut. The only Brooklyn politico I have finished is Stanley Steingut. But I intend to finish Hylan if it kills me. Cheers. AnthroMimus (talk) 05:23, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

@AnthroMimus: Thank you for the update. And nice work on all of these articles. Should I look over some of them, maybe just for grammar? Regards, re:Epicgenius (talk) 14:35, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
@Epicgenius: Yes, be my guest. Stanley Steingut is done, so it might be best to start there. If you attempt Archibald Cox, don't do the "Back to Harvard" or the "Watergate" sections since I haven't gotten to them yet. As for Irwin Steingut that is so incomplete (almost as bad as Hylan) that My goal is to inginish Hylan and let you nominate it and follow through on Ga so you can get the credit. I'm not going to ask for a review of Archibald Cox since I think an editor might think it fails the "summary writing style" criteria and I don't want to revert it to some typical list-like Wikipedia piece. Cheers AnthroMimus (talk) 15:10, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
@AnthroMimus: I think the standard practice is that the editor with the largest contribution to the article is the main nominator in its GAN, so you can be the main nominator of the Hylan article, and I will be the co-nominator if you wish. I'll probably look over Stanley Steingut's article later. Thanks again for all your work. epicgenius: unlimited epicness (talk) 15:13, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
