I moved your draft to Draft:Victor Ivaniv, as it is a more suitable location for drafts than your userpage. Best regards, LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 11:34, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to link an image from the Russian version of this article in Wikipedia: https://ru.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D0%86%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%96%D0%B2,_%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80#/media/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80_%D0%86%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%96%D0%B2.jpg

or (same image) https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80_%D0%86%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%96%D0%B2.jpg

But the English version is not allowing me to do it. I've also tried to upload directly from my computer, it throws up an error as well. The image was tagged as free to use by the image authors, so there shouldn't be any copyright issue in showing it.

Any tips on what I should do? Thanks. The Mossy One (talk) 20:12, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @The Mossy One, the image you have linked to is a local image on the Russian Wikipedia. This means that it can only be used on the Russian Wiki for now, unless a local copy is uploaded here. It is tagged as "non-free", not free to use and so can only be used on Wikipedia if it is justified under the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. Hope this helps, Schminnte (talk contribs) 20:18, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, yes, this helps! I believe I can justify its use under the non-free content criteria. How do I submit to the English Wikipedia for approval?
Alternatively, if I contact the author of the image and get their permission to use it, would this work? And would they themselves then have to upload it to Wikipedia? The Mossy One (talk) 10:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To upload a non-free image to Wikipedia, you should use the Wikipedia:File upload wizard. If you can be sure that the file meets all the criteria then it should be able to be used. As for obtaining permission outside of Wikipedia, I believe you would have to see the Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team. Schminnte (talk contribs) 12:34, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Victor Ivaniv

[edit]

Hello, The Mossy One,

Thank you for creating Victor Ivaniv.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

I think the audience would benefit from some description of his poetry and the reception to it

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Smasongarrison}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Thank you! I'll work on it. I don't think I'll be able to provide translations of his poetry (I'm not that good!), but descriptions and themes should be possible. The Mossy One (talk) 20:00, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
