GB/X
This is a proof-of-concept for a dungeon crawling game, made in GB Studio.
THIS IS A PROTOTYPE. The following features are not fully implemented:
- Equipment
- The merchant
- The cleric and wizard classes (you can choose them, but their spells do nothing)
- Music and sound effects
You can play the game in browser or download the .gb file to play on a Game Boy Color emulator, such as Sameboy. If you have the appropriate hardware, it's also possible to flash the ROM to a cartridge and play on your actual Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance.

About
The mechanics are a simplified version of the 1981 Tom Moldvay edition of the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rulebook, with some additional material inspired by the David "Zeb" Cook edition of the D&D Expert Rulebook, the Rules Cyclopedia edition of D&D from 1991, and the 5e edition of D&D from 2014.
Made for My First Game Jam: Summer 2022.

Install instructions
You can play the game in-browser from the game's web page.
If you download the .gb file, you will need a Game Boy emulator to run it on a computer. I've tested it successfully with Sameboy.
If you have the right equipment, you can also flash the .gb file to a cartridge and play the game on an actual Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance! Follow the instructions that came with your third-party cartridge. I've done this successfully with an EZ-FLASH Junior and a SanDisk MicroSD card. I've received reports that it works on several third-party handhelds as well.

Wow is this fantastic! Really great visuals and art, and very fun integration of D&D mechanic. I love being able to befriend everyone, I always appreciate that in a game hehe
Hi! I really like it so far! love the dialogues, in particular when you try to befriend everyone xD
Glad you enjoyed it! Writing the dialogue was one of the most fun parts of making the game, if a bit frustrating to code in GB Studio. I thought it was important to capture the fact that the Basic Rulebook is pretty clear that killing everything you meet in the dungeon doesn't have to be your first or only option :)
