World 3 Finished & Crooked Carl Added


It's been a little while since the last update! I participated in another game jam and created a game called Shield Arena. It was fun participating in another game jam, but admittedly I had trouble bringing focus back to Suddenly Bird after that. Today I finally finished World 3 and figured it was time for an update!

Sliding Mechanic

While I had the baseline for this coded before approaching world 3, it needed some fine tuning and getting animations to properly work with the new slide states.

Crooked Carl


Collecting Shiny Feathers was something I added starting in world 1 with the intent on allowing you to spend them later. World 3 is the first world where you can visit "Crooked Carl" to spend some of the shiny feathers you've collected for a permanent upgrade!

World 3 Levels Finished

With the sliding mechanic dialed in and the rest of the assets ready, I finally found the motivation to finish all 8 levels for world 3. BrittOmnRex summed up how I feel about these levels perfectly: 

"I love to hate ice levels, and this looks like it’ll frustrate me just the right amount."

QoL/Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that sometimes gave the player an unintentional double jump.
  • Added some improvements to last safe position. Sometimes when coming out of bird form a player might still fall to their doom.
  • When turning into a bird, the player has a little bit more float to their jumping/falling.
  • Music transition between world maps and levels is a little cleaner. Used to be a hard cut off and long delay when leaving the world map.

Future

World 4 is going to be coastal/beach themed with a newly added fish enemy! We'll see if we can get another mini game or two added in while we're at it.
