Can Gemezl do wrong? Another great GAME! Amazing Dev & Game! | 2nd Game

(1 edit) (+1)

I may just be a bad at this, I accept that, but...

Is this maybe unfairly intense? In my experience, you don't find these monsters, they find you. You know they're upon you when that really heavy camera filter comes on and that siren is blasting.

From the perspective of an emotionless drone,

  • The enemies come out of nowhere
  • Blind you
  • Decently quick (with 0 wind-up; if the cam effect is on, they're shmovin' at you)
  • 1-Shot you

With the emotional layer, you're running away from something you can't see in layouts you're not familiar with. I'd "drive-by" to get familiar with the environment while running away to come back later if the camera effect wasn't so obnoxious.

This IS something horror gaames do, but they tend to have a stealth mechanic or something; a method of detecting and losing the monster to pick a good time to quickly get something done. Here, they feel both unavoidable AND unmanageable (from the wine cellar onwards, anyways).

I am, however, also a pussy. Take with a grain of salt.

This was fantastic! Mind-blowing quality of sound, lighting, shadows, and atmosphere! How is this an indie game?!

My only regret is I had to stop playing before the end. Something about this title caused a huge punch of motion sickness and I had to close the game. That's just me, though, it happens from time to time, so it's definitely NOT a knock on this game.

I absolutely recommend Westwich Castle! Grab it now!

I've enjoyed all the games I've played by this dev so far. It is great to see them experiment and try different styles of horror - each one have their own personality and are all a fun ride. The lighting is great and the environment makes it feel like people were / are in this castle. It is just enough to make you want to know what is going on. Some of the surprises are fun and tense!

Westwich Castle will certainly remind you of the first Ammesia game by Frictional Games. This is indeed a great presentation, and one that you absolutely have to try, if you enjoy a creepy and eerie atmosphere. The castle, although not gigantic, can give a labyrinthine sense of grandeur, where each room hides a dark secret waiting to jump on you. Recommended, as are all this devs games. If you want to check how it runs on Steam Deck just press the link below:

If you didn't tell me what game I was playing, I'd think it's a custom map from Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

The only thing I really disliked was the camera effect when I was being chased by the monster.

So, very atmospheric indeed and I loved exploring the castle. But I'll say I didn't quite like the static effect when the monster is hunting you, I feel like it could have been less harsh on the eyes. Also the monsters could have been a bit more of a threat (like, walking around the halls rather than just staying still staring at walls) cause honestly they were quite easy to avoid. Basically the atmosphere was scary and unsettling but the monsters lacked a little bit of work. Good game overall though, you definitely show a lot of promise as a developer.

Great game, very creepy atmosphere and story. Tension was high throughout. Love it 10/10

Very good Amnesia atmosphere. The monster sounds/effects could be improved upon, otherwise 10/10. Very good. Add a save feature, tho'.

A full no commentary gameplay. I really enjoyed it, but mostly for the atmospshere, since the gameplay is a bit basic.

GAMEPLAY WALKTHROUGH

This captured the Amnesia vibe almost perfectly. From the design to the movement. Amazing game. What'd you think?

This heavily reminded me of Amnesia and I loved it!

Very neat game! Loved the amnesia feel to it, however, I ran into a Bug that whenever I would die to the monster, that particular monster would not be there when I go through it again. It happened on all 3 monsters that I found. (One found me, I think it was hiding in a dark corner, because I definitely did not see it lol) And all 3 times, I'd go back through after dying and couldn't find it again

TLDR: cool game, monsters would despawn after player death each time

I like it! There was a little glitch whenever I'd lose the monster in an open area though. Cool game can't wait to see it improved brother or sister!
