11/10 would recommend to passing travelers

The game is so well made, from art to dialog to music, and everything else. Give it a try if you haven't.

This visual novel bursts out of the gate with a captivating intro! gg's art is a total feast for the eyes – their use of color and texture is phenomenal, and the way they draw expressions is top-notch. Ysme's in particular is just dynamite, every little shift in her face tells a story. The music? Perfect. The dialogue? Crisp and engaging. World-building? So intriguing, I couldn't put it down. The story throws some wild curveballs, but they landed perfectly, and the humor is sprinkled throughout like delicious seasoning.

Loic and Ysme? Total heart-eyes for both. Their designs are fantastic, and their personalities come alive on the screen. (Seriously, gg, how'd you make a clown so captivating?) Having followed your art elsewhere, I knew these characters were going to be amazing, and they did not disappoint. Every time Ysme made a move, I was like "YAS QUEEN." And let's be honest, who wouldn't fall for a hot dad and a captivating clown?

RRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHH NO WAY the GGDG MAKING A VISUAL NOVEL??

In Soul of Sovereignty, ggdg will - as they always do - grip you immediately with compelling characters in a compelling world, wrapped in a package of stunning original art characterized by ggdg's masterful use of colour. And now for the first time, lovely music as well! It's a great complement to the novel.

The description tells you all you need to know going into it. If the themes sound interesting to you, you'll see them done justice.

I bought this a while back, and finally sat down to play.

I did not expect so many things to happen. Holy shit

What a wonderful start! I'm so excited to see where this story goes, I was absolutely delighted by every aspect of it. To start I adore gg's art, they have such a great eye for shape and texture and use such pleasing colour palettes. And their expressions! Ysme's in particular stood out as one of my favourite aspects of the entire VN. The soundtrack was gorgeous, the dialogue was wonderful, the world building is intriguing, I expected none of the twists and loved every sprinkling of humour within. I adore both Loic and Ysme as characters; I love their designs and their characterization, and I'm so happy to finally see them in context (having followed gg elsewhere and adored these two based on how cool the art for them was). Anytime Ysme did anything all I could think was 'wow, what a woman', and I am down bad for both the hot dad and the clown. Thank you for the prelude, I can't wait to read the rest when it's ready.

one of the most fun storytelling experiences i have had the privilege of viewing! the worldbuilding is fascinating and has me itching to learn more, and i ADORE the characters--they're truly my favorite aspect of the whole affair, honestly! they're so full of depth and personality (and That One Part had me cackling) and i cannot wait to see more of them in action!

As a long-time fan, I've been excited about this VN for a while (though it did take me a few weeks to get to it) and hoo boy it sure did NOT disappoint. The artwork was stellar (and sexy) and, together with the music and careful choice of words, created a delicious and extremely well-woven atmosphere (I did not expect a singular plot twist and all of them had me gasping so hard I choked on my own spit. Bless). I am in love with all the characters shown so far; they're all so incredible and well designed (my favorite being of course Ysmé she's such an asshole so far yet I forgive her (mainly because she's gay (at least I think so))).

Conclusion: Yeah this game was exactly what I wanted from it. Masterful execution of everything it set out to do; it's got me hooked on everything. Can't wait to see more of the "gang". 5/5

yahoo! soulsov rules!! this vn really is great. gg's art is a delight to behold, and their skill with color is especially wonderful. the writing is intriguing and charming and the characters are delightful. there are a lot of crummy visual novels in this world and this is not one of them. this one is good instead. everyone i know who has played/read soulsov has adored it. if you like fantasy at all, you will enjoy this i think! i am so excited for more to come out.

I loved this! The world build is very intriguing and the characters have a pleasing amount of nuance. Very intrigued to see where the story goes!

this game is really good and i'm 👀 at what will come next

Ive been a fan of ggdg for years now. I've followed them through many projects. This one is maybe my favorite yet. The art is stunning as always but the story really shines in this short prelude. It wasn't what I expected at all- in the best way possible. Worth the price. Worth the time spent reading it. So excited for the eventual continuation of it. Thank you for making this!

this was my first visual novel and I enjoyed it so much I'm considering learning renpy so I can have a go at making my own. this is really something special!

As someone who's completely passed over VNs and everything in that space, I was slightly apprehensive of a purchase. But as a fan of ggdg and their stellar works like Lady of the Shard, I knew I couldn't miss out on what they were cooking up next. And by god was I right. Even just this prologue has gripped my thoughts, a tantalizing taste of a story I won't be missing out on. Buy this.

10 out of 10 pallid women say you should play this game!

The characters, the world building, the artwork...you will be enamored and sucked in and want to know more after you finish it....and get this...there will be more!

Really, really enjoyable! Not to mention the absolutely gorgeous art. Lots of fun surprises, and it's only getting started. I am so eager to see where this story heads next.

Listen. I'm really very attracted to the problematic clown lady. I would like to be in Loic's very unfortunate shoes.

It's a good game, good music, good art direction and illustration, and some fun powerful moments! The game sort of does some art and layout changes that you wouldn't expect from most standard visual novels, and I really like that they decided to mess around with what they could do in order to get the presentation in a way that looks nice and tells the story well.

Normally goes for $10, and I think that's a pretty good asking price in my opinion.

Looking forward to more!

I am obsessed. ggdg has been one of my favorite storytellers for years now, and Soul of Sovereignty has me hooked with its world, its characters, the unfolding lore, and just about every element of its presentation. I am completely normal about this story and its characters, and you should be, too.

I put off buying and playing this for multiple months and now I'm writing this on a short break from pacing around my apartment and ranting incoherently to my roommate. There exists a woman so wonderfully awful that it will rewire your brain chemistry in under an hour (maybe. I was too absorbed to keep track of time). She's in here. Go join Ysme army. Loic is very sweet and compelling and I'm not sure he deserves all this but thank god it's happening to him anyways.

Sensible half of the review is this: really good pacing, music, and use of sound effects. World building and magic system is interesting and genuinely pretty novel, which is hard to come by these days. The two main characters are both complex and flawed in pretty interesting ways, even this early on. This thing's got Notes and Flavors. If you've read LoTS you know which ones. I will not elaborate for the sake of not ruining the surprise(s).

If you're on the fence about getting this, do it. I'm off to shill this relentlessly to everyone and think about them until my brain shorts out.

beautiful art, music, and designs! the writing is really compelling and the story's a wild ride that make it hard to put down until you get to the end. can't wait for the rest!

Read this when it launched in December and again just last night. This is something really special. The art and music work together to create such a compelling atmosphere, and the writing is excellent. The leads are already such interesting characters, especially a particular normal woman(who we maybe learn is a smidge less than normal as the story continues. Just a bit). Excited to read more when it's ready.

🌻sheer artisanry: an easy five-star narrative with more to come🌻

Breathtaking. If you have an hour of time on your hands- alone or with friends- I encourage you to turn off the lights and drop into the world that this first chapter sets out for you. If you do, you'll certainly meet somebody very, very special. (You might fall in love!) (Is that a good thing...?)

This is a fantasy story about two people getting bound up in magic, miracles, and each other, each eager to defy fate for their own reasons when given the opportunity. I hope you'll follow them to the end.

It sports boldly-colored art with expressive character portraits, a well-composed OST that runs the gamut from eerie and morose to campy and extravagant, and most importantly: a masterstroke of a narrative by GGDG, whose deft hand for character writing burns brighter and brighter as the story blazes on. Maybe you'll even find yourself rooting for someone willing to destroy and remake the world! (... Is that a good thing?!)

I haven't stopped thinking about either of this VN's leads since I first sat down to play it in December, and I don't think that'll have changed at all a year from now. I guarantee the sex clown will get stuck in your brain and not pay rent. (A good thing, for sure.)

I especially think you should give this a try if you like:

  • the Tales Of series
  • older Final Fantasy games (VI & VIII & X especially)
  • any novel by Ursula K. LeGuin
  • Heaven Will Be Mine

pretty good

This is just amazing. The music, the art, the writing, it's all great, can't wait for the complete game!

6 months after playing soulsov and it is still rotating around in my head. please play it so it will rotate around in your head too. everything in it, from the character writing, the atmosphere, the art, the soundtrack, the worldbuilding, it is all so so compelling and is something that will really stick with you. it also has a normal woman

(+2)

This VN is incredible!! I was inexorably drawn in even just by the art and vibes on Tumblr, but the VN itself completely bewitched me. The characters are delightful and engaging, and the story hook and world-building leave me eagerly awaiting more after the prologue. In a nutshell, I wanna see the sexy clown put the beautiful flower dad in so many situations.

please meet ysme whos the worlds most beautiful and innocent woman

when you get to That Part and realize what the story is going to be and what the dynamic is you will be unable to think about anything else for roughly two to three weeks afterward. highly recommended experience

but what's really great is That Part could be one of like three different parts depending on how your brain is shaped and that's beautiful. and it's only the first chapter!! what new and exciting That Parts await us....
