the menu should float right of the map pane but not on the right edge of the browser window:

What is the use of 'canvas size' anyway? It seems to just put the map in a fixed size box in stead of full screen.
With the filter element you have added a sort of sidebar next to the map, also in full screen, so the map now behaves almost similar as in 'canvas size'?
