Hello everyone! My name is Joshua. I'm a system administrator, supergeek, and musician based out of Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I'm a FLOSS enthusiast, and try my hardest to use only FLOSS software, such as my Debian OS, FLOSS applications, and other various items.
In late 2018, I founded the Jellyfin project with several other contributors, in order to create a truly FLOSS video streaming and management server, a successor and alternative to Emby and Plex.
In early 2018, also began my own major project, Parallel Virtual Cluster (PVC), a "hypervisor manager for the rest of us", designed to give you the power of a private cloud without the hassle or expense of the alternatives.
I've also done some smaller projects along the way, such as RFFmpeg and MediaSorter, both small utilities designed to complement a Jellyfin installation.
Beyond GitHub, I'm also quite active on Reddit, and you can often find me in various self-hosting, systems administration, and programming subreddits. I'm first and foremost a system administrator, and I'm quite proud of the homelab I've built for myself and in which I pour quite a lot of time.
In my day job, I support ISPs working to build better broadband for communities of all sizes. My primary role is as a senior systems architect, helping to design and support the server infrastructure which delivers our OSS software and mail platform.
Outside of computing, I'm an avid biker, often riding my 30KM trail path through Burlington and the surrounding Bronte Creek Provincial Park, and I also enjoy gardening outside when the weather is nice. In the colder months, I enjoy various board games and D&D - I've been told I'm a good dungeon master!
I'm not normally one to ask anyone for money, but with the GitHub sponsors program, I hope to provide those who are grateful of the volunteer work I do a chance to help me out.
