I Can

Today marks the third week I've been exercising again. I started running again each weekday, partly because I was tired of being out of shape, and partly because of just plain discipline. It's been good; running isn't a whole lot of fun, but I feel great afterwards. I started at 1/4 mile and am up to running 3/4 mile currently. It's a great physical example of I Corinthians 9:27 for me.

I changed the links on here.. are they more noticeable now? Do you like the colors?

Man, whatever happened to Skillet? I mean, duh, I know they're still around and making music, but their first album was so much better than everything they've done since then it seems. They got Forefront-ized. I still think they're OK, but nowhere near as good as that first album; they've lost some edge. I particularly love the first song, 'I Can' from that album. Take a listen to it sometime. Don't worry, it doesn't sound electro-industrial like their more recent stuff.. just in case you were worried. I'll leave you with the words to the song:

I CAN (mp3 clip)

Verse 1:
Looking on the sad times, the guilt and all the shame
I have learned to submit my existing hurts and pains
All the grief I've learned to set aside 'cause
I am, I am, I am, I am

Feeling underooted, feeling undermined
Can this grace of God cover me this time?

Chorus:
When I feel the pain I know why I feel strange
When I hear the rooster crow I am ashamed

Verse 2:
Jesus on the cross and this cross upon my back
I have learned to submit then I whine about my lack
Sometimes I drop my cross, deserve a little rest
That's when I run to you and I nail your feet and your wrist

I'm feeling underooted, feeling undermined
Can this grace of God cover me this time?

(Chorus)

And when I feel the pain I know why I feel strange
And when I hear the rooster crow I am ashamed
And do you really love my soul even after I hated you?
And do you really know my name, can I really come to you?
Are you really more faithful than the changing of the seasons and the morning sun?
Do you really know my name, can I really come to you?

I can, I can, I can, I can
I can, I can, I can, I can
I can, I can, I can, I can
I can, I can, I can, I don't care
If the rooster crows, if the rooster crows
If the rooster crows, if the rooster crows, I, I can

Didn't listen to the mp3 clip, but the words sound really cool. Verse 2 seems real powerful especially. Oh yeah, and it IS TOO pop!

I agree, homey. In fact, I often joke with friends that like Skillet a lot, and tell them that if Skillet's keyboard was stolen, they'd have to cancel their whole tour, heh heh.
I honestly have a hard time telling their last three albums apart. Their hearts are great... but their music is the same everytime, just with new(? debatable, also) bells and whistles.

I know something you don't know...

ditto.

i concur. their first album was the best. i bought the second one, too, and the words are up to par, maybe they just need to hire on a great musician like jeeves. it would be like afghanistan hiring mercenaries. yeah. just like that.

i like the cool picture on the 1st album. i dunno, though. none of their stuff is really my thing. i haven't listened to the 1st one enough to make a real decision on it, but i think my brother likes it best.

"forefront-ized." that's funny. :D
