A Million Points of Light: A Digimon Charity Fanzine for Palestine
A downloadable zine
Spring 2000: Children from around the world unite on the internet to support Omnimon in the struggle against Diaboromon.
Now, in the spring of 2024, we have the chance to support a worthy cause of our own, right here in the real world.
This is a Digimon fanzine raising money for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, an organization that provides medical care to those affected by the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. The artists featured in this zine created their pieces not just out of love for a tv show they watched as kids, but out of love for the people of Gaza and the West Bank, many of whom have been murdered in the name of imperialism, colonialism, and greed.
Despite being ostensibly about advanced digital technology, Digimon stories are actually about caring for and growing closer to others. They assert that power comes not from the individual, but from the bonds that individuals form with one another, and they maintain that when passionate people unite in the name of a common goal, they can change the world. It’s easy to be pessimistic about the role that technology plays in our lives, but Digimon asserts that the internet is primarily a method of connecting us, even when we are separated by unfathomable distance.
So let’s put those beliefs into practice. Let’s unite our hearts, refuse to give into the despair all around us, and endeavor to make the world a little better. Digital gate, open!
