International Registered Reports Identifiers (IRRIDs) facilitate reproducibility, accountability, and trust in science
Authors submit a research plan/protocol/grant proposal to a RR1 IRRID accredited entity (a journal or peer-review service or funding agency that peer-reviews protocols).
The protocol will be assigned a RR1-IRRID (identifier) as a "stamp of peer-review" and will be published in a RR1-IRRID accredited journal. RR1 protocols/proposals and preferably also the peer-review reports are openly available and published with a DOI (the protocol DOI is part of the IRRID). This will guarantee subsequent acceptance in RR2-IRRID journals and authors will receive a 10-20% discount on the Article Processing Charges (APC), if applicable.
Accredited RR2 IRRID publishers disseminate results papers.
To minimize publication bias, IRRID journals and services guarantee acceptance of results papers regardless of the results being positive or negative. Peer-review will focus on whether the RR1 protocol was followed and results are reported in accordance with EQUATOR reporting guidelines.
IRRID-accredited journals that publish RR2 reports commit to not reject any papers because results are "negative", and provide a discounted APC.
