Really enjoyed the game, it's amazing how much you crammed into the time! One piece of feedback, on level 3 I was wondering why the collision with the lowest explosive box was broken, I was dropping right through it - before I realised it was a door an I had to save it for last! I can see now that it has a doorknob + slightly more oval shape than the boxes, but maybe a colour change could help discern it at a glance from the other boxes (also for some of the later levels) so players immediately know where the end goal is?
Clearly a game to be improved in a post-jam version! I'm a big fan of puzzle plateformer and this one works completely and could really be extended to more levels or even new mechanics.
If I may offer a word of advice, perhaps revise the player's deceleration a little? Being very slippery can make the game a bit punishing. Or reduce the collision polygon of the spikes a little to be a little more forgiving. In my opinion, this would allow you to put more emphasis on well-designed levels (which you seem to know how to do) and allow players who aren't platform pros to still succeed in levels once they've figured out the right path to take. But it also depends on the game you want to make and the audience you're aiming for. A game with a lot of sliding and uncompromising collisions will surely appeal to players who play “Super Meat Boy” and like to be pixel perfect.
In any case, it's currently a great game, and I'll be delighted to see it evolve. Bravo!
Thank you very much for the kind words! As I think I mentioned in another comment, I think I'll do a post jam with new and improved art, levels, and maybe even a custom level maker. Thanks a lot for the feedback! If you'd like to help, I'd love your opinions on a beta version of the post jam game when I get around to making one, you seem to be pretty knowledgeable in this genre!
It would be a pleasure :)
TY for making a great game :D Made me think about the order to destroy the boxes
As others said the collision hitboxes are a bit frustrating. For a precision platform this lacks a variable jump height and coyote time to feel good. Art is nice and simple. Audio is just a single sound when you jump.
Also I got stuck on this level because the game doesnt explain how to open doors? In one of the first levels you also could get to the door but to go through it I had to jump from a higher position but I do not know how I am supposed to do it here.
Apologies, I did try to explain on the game page. You can use the R key to restart, and the door only opens when all the red blocks are destroyed
Excellent polished game with great level designs! Really clever build-up of mechanics in the level designs with jumps being challenging but not necessarily unfair. Reminds me of the games To a Starling and Celeste in its tight jumps and platforming style. Nice work!
The Game is Great but you need to add like button to restart the level cause on level 3 if i go to the exit as second block i need to close the game and open it
You should be able to use R to restart
Colission hitboxes frustrated me a lot, but I managed to get to the end. Very nice game and nice graphics you made. I missed some music/more sfx, but other than that I think it's really a good take on the theme and an expandable game. Congratulations!
What exactly frustrated you with hitboxes? Thanks for the kind words!
Like.... if you're even touched by 1 pixel you instantly die. Since you restart easily, and it's not a long journey to be back, it's not that bad, but I think spikes should have a 80/90% smaller collision box. Hey! It could only be me.
A really fun and challenging game! Very innovative and it was interesting to play!
Holy cow that was SO FUN! Great concept. Very clever and fantastic execution for 3 hours.
Thanks for the kind words! Definitely looking at making a post-jam edition with more levels, mechanics, polish and maybe even a level editor!
Great game!
