Triplets, triplets everywhere! Very memorable even though the melody is mostly arpeggiating inversions of the chords. There's a nice dynamic curve through out the whole piece as well. Also ending on a major out of nowhere, a wild Chopin appeared :D
The various sections/phases make for a very dynamic boss fight soundtrack. What really stands out to me is how the all the tracks change at different speeds. (I think even the strings parts play triplets against mostly straight eighths). This is the kind of rhythmic dissonance I like in a boss fight tune!
Nice work! I like your take on hip-hop and spookiness. Great use of ambiance to give some interesting textures. The intro works really well as some kind of intro to the boss or cutscene as you mentioned in the description.
I think the piece starts dark but it does take a while before I get a Halloween-vibe. The theremin sound-like voice that appears helps a lot with the Halloween theme. I like the idea of the scream but for me personally, it's a bit too loud/too far in front of the mix, maybe try to blend it a bit more with the rest. The calm part sounds very good and interesting, I love how it gives space to let the listener focus on the ambiance/textural sounds and the great use of stereo. I do think that there could have been an opportunity to expand the phase 2 section. For me, phase 1 and phase 2 seem very similar in terms of energy. I think it works very well in this kind of beat-based genre (though I'm by no means an expert) but I do wonder if it could be possible to give a bit more variation. Either on the melody, like adding a second more melodic voice/counter melody that is more prominent. Or, focus more on the beat aspect and give more variations/fills. It works great as it is now and I like it a lot, was just interested in what would happen if you were to develop one of those aspects to its maximum.
Well done and looking forward to hearing more from you!The kind of spooky music I don't think I hear that much of except for maybe later platformers? I'm not sure. It's got a lot of the instruments and sounds that comes from scary music but then it goes techno, which is pretty cool. I really like that effect at the 3 minute mark. It's really well put together. It's just making me think "Damn, there are more things I need to learn on making music" lol
But it's all really cool overall ^^
I love the second section of stabs along with the frantic violin, this really works well together and transitions nicely into the warbling ghost synth afterward. After three listens, this remains my favorite part. Nevertheless, the entire piece is solid, spooky, and works great for a boss fight.
I didn't think this style would fit the theme, but it does. Very atmospheric and I can really imagine this in some rhythm game like Necrodancer! Also great mixing.
There is a lot of great production value in this song. The Halloween tropes you used work well together with your hip hop influence to create this fight track. The ending sounds rather subdued which I imagine to be kind of like a post-fight pensive moment where you realize that the boss was actually someone you knew or something. Good work and thank you for sharing!
This is so cool! The trap drums work so well with horror and your production skills are really good. The sound fx fit really well, especially the classic scream. I also like the vocal chop thing, it reminds me of the soundtrack to Cult of the Lamb. Amazing work for your first jam entry!
Loved the incorporation of sound effects, they really added to an already great track.
Thanks for the compliments!!
oh my f*cking god, this is so cool, 10/10, if you don't win i will be mad XD
Lol, thanks so much for the kind words and support!
well done - great details throughout!
Thanks so much!
I really love how well structured this song is! I was reading your description and I can really feel how this song is supposed to work just by listening to it. One thing I appreciate about this song especially is your use of sound effects to complement the track.
Great job!
Thanks, I had a lot of fun making it! I'm used to making dark trap beats and such, so I really utilized all the experience and sound design from that!
Wow! I was not expecting this one to go as hard as it did. This is really your first jam entry? You're off to a phenomenal start! great work.
Yes it is my first one, glad you liked it! I'm excited to do more in the future!
