Ranked from 21 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
The main character of the game wakes up with the strange feeling of something terrible coming and his memory is all mixed up. He has some relatively "calm" time to figure out what is happening "before the storm".

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I am using Unity Engine and tool for it called XNode to manage scenarios. All other code is written by me.

I didn't make most of the assets and the sources are listed on the game page.

Wow, the art for this game, I was blown away by the menu/font, this game has a lot of potential but I was not able to play it because as soon as I went to another room, the control does not seem to work

Thanks! Assets are not mine, but I can take some credit for matching them with the theme) You can reload the game and the progress will be saved as well as controls working again, I don't know the cause of the issue, but for the post jam I have reworked the controls.

Nice job completing this game! Cool that your progress saves upon refreshing. Tried to fullscreen to see the text better, but it breaks the game in browser.

Feedback:

- Walking: Why have 4 directions when you can have 8, having 4 feels restricive especially with the controls feeling like they were made in an animator rather then in engine with changing direction or stopping happening with a delay which just doesn't feel great.

- Fonts: I understand wanting a fancy font for text, but if you have one there should at least be an option to change the font to something more readable as my eyes were getting tired after reading it and there could be a problem on smaller screens with reading.

- UI: A often used technique in games is hidding ui player doesn't need because let's not kid ourselves, looking at 2d static images isn't exactly exciting, that's why the game could benefit from having dialog UI only when the character is speaking, so you don't need to see a big translucent gray bar when not needed at all.

- Art consistancy: Generally having multiple artstyles in a game is not a great idea as it's hard too pull of a good look when mixing them, that's why having high res digital art with a pixelart game, feels wierd to look at, The game would benefit from having the portraits being pixelart.

Bugs I encountered: There were some serious problems with the WebGL fullscreen (I would advise using the itch fullscreen next time) and sometimes the game/player froze when walking into rooms. Generaly would advise to grab a friend for playtesting and overall check the game before submission period.

Developer

Thanks! That is insightful and pretty much on point.

Nice work :) I reviewed it on my stream:

Hey! I played and rated this yesterday, but neglected to leave a comment. The atmosphere was very good, and I was intrigued by the story.

There were some major bugs - often when I entered a new room, the character would refuse to move until I restarted the game. Also, it took several tries to get downstairs - on most tries, after the loading screen I was back on upper floor.

When downstairs, I tried interacting with everything I could see, but the only thing was the door, and the main character didn't want to go out yet. I couldn't progress further, but the game was interesting up to that point!

Nice story, I really like it! The art is great too. But I ran into an issue—when I try to fullscreen the game, it either crashes or stops. I'm not sure, but the loading bar just freezes, making it look like my screen crashed.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It seems to be a visual bug with the plugin that embeds game onto the site, you need to click and it disappears.

Nice atmosphere. Very simple, yet you gave me an idea of how a more complete version of the game would look like. I got stuck after entering doors sometimes, but nothing a restart couldn't fix. Anyways, good job!

The art is nice. I got stuck re-entering some doors.

Liked the story, it was interesting to try to know what was happening, and I liked the spooky vibes! The game had some bugs, but in the end I managed to complete it!

That was certainly an... experience...

The story was a lot different to what you usually find in a videogame and contained some profound, if slightly scary, concepts. The lesson is true: alcohol is the devil. I have to hope this game doesn't reflect your real experiences... The graphics were stunning, though the portraits in the bottom left look AI generated.

The player's speed is a bit slow and he can't move diagonally, which felt like a bit of a time waster. As other commenters have said you can get stuck at a couple doors but nothing a quick ctrl+r can't fix.

Overall a solid but spooky entry.

I am here because you very likelty played Fatten the Beast from that community post

I got game breaking bug when leaving first room, but I loved that once I reloaded I didn't lose any progress, felt the movement was to slow, but I loved the Art style!

Submitted (1 edit)

When I exit the first door, the movement controls just stop working immediately.

I've skipped rating it for now in case I got a one-off bug and might consider to play it again in case, if I have time.

Developer

Hi, sadly I can't reproduce that bug, but from other comments it seems that it is ok if you just reload the page, your progress will be saved too)

Thank you for this game! Writing is nice and idea is cool! Enjoyed the mystery and story teliing through environment. Very nice!

Some feedback:
- different art styles works not good together
- UI at the bottom can appear only during dialogue events and not be shows for the whole time
- walking speed can be increased, so it would be not as tedious to walk from place to place
- it's a little bit hard to navigate at first. It's not that bad - there are not so many ways to go, so it was intuitively easy to find how to complete the goal
- footsteps sounds were a little bit distracting

Great entry! Glad you've managed to put that in a jam! Interesting was it supposed to end with a cliffhanger or it was because lack of time? :)

Developer

Thanks for review! I had huge plans when I started prototyping, so most of this is just features stripped while I was checking if I will implement those in time. It is supposed to end as a cliffhanger, but I thought of  it as of the first iteration after which you can replay differently and maybe get to the very bottom of it.

Nice game, idea is nice. A few things that could be improved: artstyles clash a bit, movement is slow, can't pass dialogues. Overall nice work here.

i love this game

Like others, I got stuck a couple of times after switching rooms. Art and narrative look great. Congrats and good luck!

Submitted(+1)

Hee-ho. Very beautiful game, but I have issue with controls (sometimes, when you switch room, controls stop working)

Developer

Thanks, I will look into it!

I kinda got trapped in the first scene hehehe, other than that good atmosphere!

Submitted(+1)

Mystical! I would love to read the rest of the story
