I played the game. It seems more a old freeware or flash game than a gameboy game. The music does his job, but it’s not gameboy-ish. I liked every character have a theme and skills, it would be nice having a game over screen in the future. You sure put lots of effort on this game, I think even the post jam game will be good :)

Thanks for the feedback. A gameover screen would come in handy for the future version. This game will be one of my major projects after the jam too.

That was satisfyingly disturbing...

My only feedback was that at time, I was searching for survivors for a couple of minutes. Maybe have a timer that gives an arrow pointing to survivors ? or a special ability that does that. I'm not sure.

I wasn't expecting horror games for this jam, but I'm glad there's one !

Good job on the submission!

Thanks for playing. I'll keep the feedback in mind. It seems a lot of issues come from finding survivors in a large map setting. I'll fix that part forsure for the update after the gamejam.

Nice little DBD type game! My favorite part is chasing down the enemies that have guns, trying to dodge them. I also appreciate the variety of gameplay styles of the killers!
The sin-city style color palette was also a GREAT choice, perfect for the theme limitations and a genre where blood is the most important thing.
I'm not sure if the weapons did anything different, but I definitely recommend adding something to the character select page that tells you their special ability!
The controls were also a bit awkward, WASD + XC/Space is hard to control because they're both on the left side of the keyboard and your hands get in the way of each other, I don't know how easy it is to add alternative inputs in Unity but I think the option to use the arrow keys would have been nice.
The endgame can also get gruellingly slow, the first playthrough I spent a good 10 or 15 minutes trying to find the last survivor before I gave up. There's a lot of ways that could be mitigated, like a map or compass of some kind, even if it's on cooldown. (A map in general would come in handy since I got pretty lost a lot of the time, I didn't even realize there was a southwest area until my third playthrough and I almost got stuck there also)
Overall pretty fun though, and a surprising amount of features! Nice work! Interested to see how it turns out after the jam!

Thank you for the feedback, I'll take it into account.

I do plan to make the map smaller, and add a compass/tracking mechanic after the gamejam. For now, a hint is that the enemies leave behind red footprints, like breadcrumb trails. A lot of ppl find the end-game part tedious, so I'll for-sure fix it up.

(This is the footprint sprite)

With the controls, I'll adjust them too. Thank you for the feedback!

Oh! I wish I had picked up on those. I think I had assumed that they were blood effects from me stabbing the crowd, or part of the background (since there is some red in the ground tileset). It might help to make them look a bit more obviously footprint shaped, or possibly removing the  other red from the background? Either way I tried it again and knowing they're there definitely does help!

Developer(+1)

My plan is to include a tutorial level that explains it, and yes, i'll make them more footprint shaped.

I really want to play this but I cannot get the Mac version to run. Is there a web build at all?

Developer (2 edits)

No web build yet, but I'll add one for-sure.

Also what problem specifically is preventing the MAC Version to run?

Submitted

It tells me I don't have permission, even if I sudo it from the command line. I cannot exempt it in Security settings either, which is the usual workaround.

Developer

That's strange, are you opening the save file for the game instead? I use Windows so this might be a oversight on me on the mac export.

Played the game for a while, i chased the last survivor for like 5 minutes and could not find that sneaky bastard haha! The music, although is not "gameboy sounding" helps with the atmosphere, and chasing mostly harmless people to kill with a knife is stress relieving in a weird kind of way lol, good job!
