Fun idea! Took a while until I figured out how to control the character confidently, and it was quite a unique experience after that. Loved the art style as well with the minimalism and the nice colors. The T-pose is a nice touch! I didn’t like the insta-death and the lack of checkpoints though, having to start over when still learning the layout of the level was not really fun.
Thank you very much! We wanted players to get used to the controls themselves, but we know that's not for everyone. Thanks for persevering! I'm glad you liked our graphic style :) . You're right for the insta-death. (still the 48-hour excuse )
Cool game, interesting idea and great graphics. Sometimes orient button didn't work and character simply stood in T pose. Maybe I was doing something wrong
Thanks for your comment and for playtesting our game for us ;) We certainly didn't had the time to fix everything. We've finetuned the controls now so hopefully, this kind of problems don't exist anymore.
I like how fast they go when you do well; it's very speedrunable. Booting to the menu on death was a bit much. Good work!
Yeah, for the speed run, we wanted to add a timer but missed some time to do it. We added it in version 2.0! And you're right for the menu, we fixed it now as well. Sorry for the troubles, it was our first time managing menus. Thanks for your feedback !
Incredible, congrats on this game ! A 10/10 for me !
waw, thanks a lot!
This is quite a clever take on the theme! With my potato camera controlling skills, I seem to be just nudging the guy along by hitting him with the camera periodically! haha! The art style looks good, and the gameplay unique. Well done! :D
Thanks for your feedback ! Glad you enjoyed it despite some troubles ;)
First of all, thank you for adding graphics settings! My poor little laptop CPU can’t handle UE games at their highest settings, so a chance to actually play the game is very much appreciated! :)
This is actually one of the ideas we brainstormed when the theme was announced, but quickly discarded it since we lacked both the skill and the time to implement this in a fun way, so when I saw the premise, I knew I had to try if someone else managed to make it work.
And hey, it works better than I expected! I don’t play a lot of 3D games since I can’t really handle the camera movement very well, which was also the case here, and being the camera myself certainly didn’t make that easier, but I did get (sort of) used to it after a while. Still very fiddly, but also kind of fun. Big props for managing to implement this!
Theming-wise, since the controls are so fiddly, I think I’d prefer this to go into a more whimsical direction. I don’t think you can really get suspenseful high-octane gameplay to work here, but watching a somewhat inept rookie agent stumble through an obstacle course might be a lot of fun!
Overall though, considering this was done in 48 h, amazing job. Well done!
Haha, the graphic settings were the first thing we implemented in the project. I'm glad it worked.
We spent a lot of time studying this basic concept and making sure it was possible to find a gameplay loop. I'm not going to lie, it was a real challenge! We also had so many other ideas around this concept that we didn't have time to realize... Like a sidescroller mode or, as you suggest, giving the character a personality and making it a bit more fun with physics. That's for a hypothetical future update.
Thanks for your comments, and I'm glad to have turned your idea into reality (apparently in a good way!).
Takes some time to get used to but that is a good idea and a great execution.
The falling blocks clearing rooms is a nice touch !
Yes, in this version, the falling part comes a bit from nowhere. We're working on it for the polished version. With some camera shake and a few differences in the music, it works better. Glad you enjoyed it
Took me a little while to get used to how the character responds, but I really enjoy the idea of controlling the camera and having the character react instead of controlling the character and having the camera follow you around!
Yes, it's a game that requires a bit of commitment at first. It's not the best characteristic for a game jam, but we couldn't really predict how it would turn out before we did it ;) Thanks for playing, it means a lot to us.
You sneaky son of a, dropping the floor right in front of me. :D
I'm amazed that you managed to do this much in 48h. This is an excellent idea that you could really build upon, like more levels and challenges that evolve the mechanic. I also love the presentation. I'm a sucker for pastel color palettes. :)
To nitpick: the controls are a bit wonky and the ragdoll kept occasionally stopping in place for no reason whatsoever.
Haha, Thanks for the review ! For the stopping of the ragdoll, we wanted to have a free camera and moving the doll only when the camera is close enough... I agree it was not well polished. I'm sorry that you had some issues but, yeah, in 48 hours that was the maximum we could manage ;) . We're already working on fixing it ! Glad you enjoyed it !
I think this works amazing for a 48h game. I hope you get the chance to polish it. :)
wow this was such a cool take on the theme, would've never imagined it. The visuals are super clean as well, good job!
Thanks for your feedback, glad you liked it!
Cool idea, it's cool to essentially have a free-cam to strategize the level, then come back to control the character by influencing which direction it'll run. Good bit of puzzling, I'd like to see this expanded if you're going to make more levels.
Thank you! We had definitely planned more levels: playing more with the top view, side scrolling... But in 48 hours, that was a bit ambitious. We're in the process of sorting out the bugs first, and why not add more level
Such a fun and creative concept, it fits the theme really well. I love the visual style of the game as well, it felt really warm and smooth. Really nice job overall!
Thanks a lot ! We didn't have a lot of time to add some textures. Because of that, going for a simple look seemed like a good idea. Glad you liked it !
This is a really creative design that fits the theme wonderfully! Looks very slick too, great job!
Thank you ! Really glad you like the concept! I see that you submited a nice game last year too. I'll definitly check your next one for the GTMK 2024.
Wow, what a lovely take on the theme! This is definitely what I was thinking of when it comes to 'Roles Reversed' and not only that, it's a pretty game and the concept is used very well! My only issue is that the controls itself are finicky but other than that, top-notch!
Thanks a lot ! We spent 3 hours finding our concept, hours which we clearly missed to fine-tune the controls ;) This is clearly the first thing we're going to work on now
Glad you enjoyed it nevertheless !
truly an excellent game! while it was quite hard to control at first, once you get used to the feel of the handling the game turns much more fun, great work on the idea for the concept of the camera is really creative and smart! and the visuals are quite polished too, overall this was a very enjoyable experience and, this game is quite polished which gives it a great vibe overall, would play again, well done!
Thank you so much for the feedback !! Really glad you appreciated our concept. We're relieved that our game is somewhat understandable to someone ;)
Very interesting concept and I loved the execution!
Thanks, that means a lot ! :)
