Did you work in a team?
1 member team.

Was the resolution a challenge?
I tried to make the game as simple as possible, so the resolution was not a problem to me.

What did you learn?
I learned:
- how cool a 3-layered sound effect sounds (spike destroyed)
- how much more sounds bring to the experience
- how mobile gaming makes a game more accessible to ask others to try the game
- how to work with as less graphics and colours as possible to create something

Interesting and challenging game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Thank you Jupiter, this is the 2nd time you are covering a game of mine <3

Addictive game. Gameplay is good. But the text, they are anti-aliased and doesn't look good.

Got up to 33 stairs.  The death sound just tore up my ears as they we too high pitched. Also, would be cool if we had Space to jump option. Using arrows just doesn't seem to fit "my" hands.

Thanks for the feedback!

A fun simple game! Though the anti-aliased text doesn't look that good.

no rite. Is something wrong with me for liking it?

It's a simple game, but it feels like it was a little rushed.

Graphics are quite simple, even considering the screen resolution. That doesn't affect gameplay itself that much, but the title screen, unfortunately, just doesn't leave a good first impression in terms of authenticity. I assume you were using Construct, right? I think the text would've been a lot better if you had used Sprite Fonts. Given the limitations, I think small fonts, like PICO-8 font, would be a nice fit here.

There's no soundtrack, just sound effects. Noisy, highly-pitched sound effects! I recommend to mute the tab if you want to try seeking for higher scores. Otherwise, it's kinda annoying to hear that everytime you get a new record.

Gameplay seemed hard to me at first, mostly because I assumed it would play just like any typical platformer, where you just move left/right and jump. Then, after getting my first "double spike" stairs, I ended up getting a little bit frustrated at that point...

...until I found that you can double jump! Doing so also shoots a laser down, making it possible to destroy spikes. After that, I found the game quite fun to play for a while! After 50 or 60 points, a monster will spawn. It will push the stairs and make it harder for you to climb up.

I think the game could be a lot better if it had just a little bit more of polishment, like fixing the title screen, giving a few improvements to graphics, etc. The game may look confusing at first, but becomes fun after you learn to double jump over spikes. That's what made me enjoy it!

Thank you for writing so many letters. You even gave me tips. I thank you many. As you might have noticed I have already played your game. It was quite delicious to play :) Mine was made in about 1 day. So you could say it was rushed.
The title screen has blurry fonts. I noticed it and I like it. I like blurry... :(   blurry lover <3

So far it seems like the death sound effect is too loud.
Seems like a good punishment... for dying in my game?

I like the simple concept but I felt like if I had 2 spikes in a row, I could never make it passed that. I agree with another user that the death noise is a bit much.

Developer

I think you for playing RC

neat idea. Death noise is a little loud

This isn't 64x64. See how your fonts are smooth, and there are little gaps between the stairs? There's still plenty of time to fix it, and I think the game will translate perfectly well to the 64x64 resolution, but it isn't that right now.

Developer (1 edit)

I worked in a 64x64 viewport in the development tool. Perhaps "sub pixel" is turned on? I will look into it, thank you.
Edit: I fixed it!

Glad you got it working at 64x64.

I'm hopeless at it though - can't get past 5 or 6 steps!

Thanks for trying! Hmm... I think I have to explain in game that a double jump can destroy spikes. That may solve your problem :)
