The retro era this actually most specifically reminds me of is early 2000s Flash games, which was a huge part of my gaming upbringing haha. The SFX are way too loud/repetitive, the art is unfortunately blurry rather than pixel-sharp. Controls are responsive which is nice. A simple thing that would probably increase the polish level would be scrolling the background vertically to give the illusion of flying rather than hovering.
All in all it could be improved but it's definitely a playable arcade-style game!
Yeah all that polish stuff were thoughts I had trying to get done beforehand but the time limit was coming real close so I chose to not stress about it and submit at least something. Looking to fix the obvious things and add different looking enemies for shooting/point variety etc during this week : ) Thanks for playing.
This is an all right start. The textures seemed a bit fuzzy on my screen, either as a result of how they were imported or because it was forced to full screen. There's a little lack of variety in the gameplay and I discovered you can get pretty far by just locking your plane to the lower left and holding the fire button, maybe occasionally having to dodge a missile.
The sound design is pretty good though and is a nice touch for giving feedback when you hit or get hit. Good work :)
Yeah it's something about the resolution that I have to figure out. What I am using doesn't scale well into full screen clearly so a couple assets will have to be changed up to get a size that can scale properly. Wasn't going to stress about it as I am happy to at least have made something you get me? Am looking into sorting it and other things during this week. : ) Thanks for playing.
Normally if there's a texture filter option, if you want to keep the pixel look without it getting blurry, you need to set the filter to "Nearest." Hope that helps :)
