First time we've had a master system game in the jam as far as I remember! Cool pong variant. Pretty sure it's impossible to actually beat the opponent in pong 😅 but I made heavy use of the fire button and managed to win 9-1 in the end!

Use of fatalities is fun! Overall a really cool entry!

for me this just a game the player never can win, or have some story?or secret i dont know

For me this just felt like a very buggy version of pong, but there might be something I don't see.

Yep. It's unfinished and buggy. 😜

Even the original game it is inspired on relies more on its quirky sense of humor, rather than any spectacle.

It's pong. I don't know what the "fire button" is, so I couldn't do any fatalities :(

Hello, Fistmaker, thanks for the review. If you're using the web-based emulator, the fire buttons would be X or Z.

I played this early on in the jam, a day or two before the submission deadline. At the time, this game was marked as a work in progress. That might have been 0.1 but maybe not, I tried it again today and it seemed to play the same.

This one's weird in that it's a good pong clone, but not a fun pong clone. Hitboxes and physics feel right on, but the enemy AI is too good and tends to hit the ball in such a way that slows it to a crawl. There's a neat background, but not a lot of effects or twists to spice things up.

The whole "adding an overcomplicated backstory to justify a dirt simple game" thing is hilarious, this used to be really common back in the day. Although… this seems to actually come from the existing Pong Kombat game, and isn't original to this jam entry, which was disappointing to see.

It is technically impressive in that it's a Master System game running in an emulator, though.

Hello, XCVG; many thanks for the review!

In fact, I really need to improve the game's AI:

  • It should be made slightly less accurate for getting the ball, as, for now, it very rarely misses it; currently, the only way to win against it in a reasonable time is by using special attacks (press fire button four times);
  • Talking about special attacks, the enemy AI completely fails to use them currently, and also fails to dodge the player's special attack (except by accident), leading to some really cheesy defeats.

Also, in the original Pong, the ball gradually speeds up as time passes, without missing the ball; I didn't implement that part, yet.

At least, I'm glad to know that the game is fun, if flawed.

The fatality screen for the paddle was really well done, also getting this to work on SMS is very nice.

Well, I suppose it’s pong, not sure what else I can really say 😅. Kudos for getting it working on the Master System though.

Whhoaaaa COOL! This really was a landmark entry for me. Thanks for your service.
