Yep, just update to the latest version and you can continue exactly where you stopped (saves carry over automatically).

thanks. i think i updated the game but im not sure. I still have the What The Future Holds quest. is that normal?

That is normal. That quest means you've done all main story content for the current version. Note: Not every patch will have a main story quest!
