Unfortunately this very often happens, escpecially at the end of the latest chapters.

For myself I waited until the full release came out to begin playing. I like to play a game from beginning to end without any demo or trailer.
This game is absolutely awesome. I admit, colorful and happy storys are more my type but I came here explicitly for some light horror. And I wasn't disappointed, quite the contrary! It's amazing.
There are three most things for me to mention:
1. The perspective of a little wolf cub is just perfect. It reflects relationships between scared dogs or wild wolfs and humans so well. Their trust, and empathy related to each other is captured lively the reader is teleported right into the scene. Not to mention the little distractions and instincts. Whoever has a dog knows what I mean.
2. It comes without heavy jumps cares, and I am really grateful for that. Typical horror games are usually nothing more than monsters popping out from anywhere or psychic elements meant to haunt for weeks. Neither I am the brave sould beering tons of them without having difficulty falling asleep after them not I am interested in those profane works. Your game instead provides much more variables feeding the atmosphere, like dark secrets within a family, disgusting inclinations, and reminders of how cruel reality can hit you. That stuff doesn't make reader hiding unter the blanket fot the duration of the movie but let them thinking about the plot all the more. It mirrors current social problems like child abusment, betrayal and selfishness.
3. The story, names, personalities, drawings and the voice were really good. Maybe sometimes the story or Basil's emotions felt a little bit repetitive but even that increases the feel of closeness. Speaking of the drawings, they are wonderful. Did you say, you draw them by hands? What an excellent art style!
Thanks for the great game you created - and for making it a free one of course!
A few steps are worth a try I think:
- try one of the other sources the dev provided (sometimes some vendors crave for payment and stop download on purpose at the very end to make you spend money)
- try switching the browser (Chrome/Firefox/Edge)
- try using a premium link downloader [with the permission of the domain owner of course XD]
- try downloading with VPN (use VPN Proton as it has a free mode and not being as slow as others), if it works it was a problem related to IP adress ban
- try finding downloads on other sources like archive.org
I bet, one of those methods will work for you! I can assure you, 'download other games now' is shit, because NO, REALLY NO VN HENTAI GAME IS BETTER THAN "ETERNUM"!
What you say makes sense. And I know about Komisari's plan to make 3 huge chapters including the prologue. It's a good plan and in my opinion much better than releasing very short epsidodes in too short intervals. But I seem to remember one and a half year ago he said something similiar about chapter 1 being finished until end of year. And two years ago he said something about great progress and updating soon. This is why I am a bit careful to not expect too much when I hear announcements like 'end of year' or 'every 6 months'.
Thank you for the information. But a status report here on Itch would be highly appreciated anyway so that we can see whether there is steady progress or not. This shouldn't be an accusation against Komisari, its only a bit tiresome to open this webpage every week seeing no story update for several years now. It would be better trying to nail a date (even if mesaured in years) than to having dev who put us off continuously without any ETA.
It's okay if you need more time to develop. But you absolutely should post a status update here on itch.io and/or keep the Trello roadmap up to date. You promised to do so a few months ago, but so far neither of them is present. It would cost you not much time, but everyone would see there is a progress so that this chat has not to be overcrowded by the eversame question that much.
And another one:

I'd like to ask again when you'll post a new status report here on itch.io: Your last one is from May 07, 2023 - more than a year old now. As not everyone here visits Discord frequently and Trello is not up to date, I think it would be very helpful for many of us to not think the project might have become paused.
I mean, your work is highly appreciated and your quality update last year was amazing, but without a doubt I can tell lots of us would be glad about new content now...
Komisari, maybe you could give us a progress report here on itch.io. You said yourself the Trello Roadmap is not up to date and some of us are not on Discord everday. Since your last report here is over one year old (May 07, 2023), maybe you could post some news here or at least copy the most important status from Discord to this platform.
Could you be so nice and do this?
This game was so incredible good - exactly the right mix of (animated cartoon) horror and point-and-click for me! It bet it had to be a nightmare itself for the developer to set the design and interactive mode, especially the animation of the elevator buttons, a great milestone for RenPy based games. Plus, the easter eggs - I loved them all :D
I am very interested in the ETAW horror rumor in general and your work is a perfect done job when it comes to set the scene. Again, an amazing combo of a given horror story, the catgirls and bullying with it's consequences for the victim. Actually the game seems to represent reality much better than at the first glance, because it's always up to the victim to deal with the bad feelings and pay the price for trusting someone to much despite one had to know better. But of course I really appreciate the comparatively positive outcome.
Here I am now, asking for a possible sequel to "The Elevator Game with Catgirls". Sure, their plot is closed and original ETAW consists of one run of the game only, but it was such a great game! I'd like to know whether we can hope for a comeback of Asahi and their friends in another apartment building disaster...
@Komisari:
Knowing high quality projects take their time always (everything else would lead to poor output, insecurity or compatibility problems) I highly honor your work, dude!!!
But please do not try to overdo it. Your Trello roadmap shows there would be still much work left. From my experience (writing various little apps, installers and patches or continue work from others) I can tell, loosing focus can happen really fast and time flys by so quick at some point. Sometimes it took me weeks or even months for a little app/patch to finish in my spare time. But there were others I had never finished because of that. What I trying to say is: When working so long on this, there is a not so little risk for you to waking up someday being completely disillusioned and unwilling to continue HHG - and that would be the worst case, probably far more for yourself than for the most of us it could be. Don't try to mess with the biggest software industries with hundreds of full-time payed developers.
We'd be probably all fine by some of HHG graphics/animations or story parts lacks of the upper-most fine details for the sake of you not becoming tired of your most important project. Better skip some minor parts for real and focus on the m later if you feel like it.
All have a nice day!
Shame on m, I didn't read the description all. You know about that and mentioned it already. My apologise.
Besides: Very good work - the game is great, and thanks to your casting and the cast themself with fantastic voice acting. Thanks for german mentions, I come from Germany myself, so I appreciated it in a special way. Some words lacks of correct pronunciation a bit, but very well done yet. Very creepy plot I have to say, but exactly what the game promised.
Thanks!
I am just at the beginning of the game and using Windows 11 PC. The bug is a scaling issue: Clickable objects aren't scaled to the custom backgound resolution but stay at 1920x1080.
That means, if you have a bright monitor and use a wide resolution like 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 (maybe it applies for the smaller ones too, I dont' know), interactive objects wouldn't 'fit' in the background.
Maybe, you can find a solution for that...
Hell, this game was incredible! Just finished Eternum v.0.6 and of course I regret not playing more slowly. Annie is my favorite!
Characters, music, sounds, eternums story and its servers, high-quality images and animations - 9/10 stars.
Why only 9/10? There are a few points that would make the game even more exciting in my opinion:
- At the beginning we learn a lot background stuff and normal events. Later after Eternum kicked in, those normal scenes are very rare to missing. Eternum looses a bit its fasciniating atmosphere if there aren't any more daily routines. For example, lets visit on a couple more school lessons, how is Chang going and how he's doing with Michaela, is there any deeper meaning into Chop-Chop and will he appear again (as unnerving he is, he probably should), the family's cat seems really nice - she has to become even more attention, Raul + Noah's background... ... you see, exciting/boring side storys are the ones that lacks your story of a bit. Take more time between sex scenes and/or Eternum adventures.
- Texts are easy to understand... but maybe sometimes a little bit repeating. If our MC forms more different sentences, he'll look more intelligent.
- MC shouldn't only be in a good physical state, but come up with an own intelligent idea - I mean, the girls should love him not only for his big appendage
- At the beginning the characters had their own habits, that was just super super awesome!!! E.g. Nova used qualified IT network security knowledge. By the way - no one can imagine something like this without reference - did you research that all on your own... or have you hacker skills yourself? I work in IT and just had CompTIA Security+ curse last month - and I've to say, her vocabular fits absolutly.
Unfortunately, later their are no other IT stuff scene with her. Just the same with Luna, Annie's combat improvements and the scary girls from MCs dreams, the progress of investigating case of Axel's best friend in detail and Ulysses corruption (like you told on the prologue). Other characters habits, like the one from Alex, Calypso and Dalia seem nearly perfect to me already.
- You might consider re-using some music or locations from time to time. They are fantastic. Warthogs, the music from Mr. Hernandez's contest, Andromeda server
- There has to be definitely a special, where MC fucks a Praetorian. Sorry folks, but I had to mention it. The one from the icy server (where they find Calypso) that appeared first were very hot for example... The manipulating cube maybe could taking a role into that part...
- The two Asians from that crazy server MC stumbled escaping with Calypso could provide another sex scene
Final thoughts:
Please don't feel offended by those improvements suggestions, I just said what I had in my mind - the game is very very good already. Plus, I like the parallels to real life things, all that real-existing trades and people and history (hell, even mention of Corona time had its small appearance there). The best is: We all know about some special similarities to "Ready Player One", but it does not destroy it - you found an amazing balance of adapting suggestions from that movie and having your very own story. Congratulations, that had to be the most difficult task ever. And, all the allusions let me laugh almost as hard as the story and its characters itself! And I laughed pretty much playing Eternum.
Did you wait about 30sec? The engine is RenPy and that means though you extracted the ZIP file their inner PY files are compressed too. The game needs them to wait for finishing self-extraction every launch before display the game window itself.
But probably themain cause might be that your antivirus think it could be ransomware and pauses the execution at runtime without any notify. Because RenPy is able to alter lots of files in a short amount of time - and that makes the engine suspicious, not HHG in special but alle those VNs. Whitelist the game and you should be fine next launch. I have to do this for Acronis and AppCheck always.
And if it is not that, maybe another process consumes way too much CPU ressources (or has too high priority). Look into your Task-Manager and verify your system has enough capacities left.
The downloaded files are healthy for sure. TCP/IP overwatches download stream and correct issues automatically without ever telling you (except if you use UDP). Even if bits would get lost, the binary (EXE/DLL) shows an error message in 99,9% because of code is corrupt or cannot be interpreted. No error message means the app is downloaded fine as well as it fits your architecture (other apps must be the problem then).
I already played the game twice - its absolutely fantastic! The story, the little background details, the girls look of course, Jimmys character, and the animations.
But the greatest surprise for me is that RenPy is mostly made for (animated and choice-based) stories but not for exploring or any realtime mini-games. That seems really rare if not unique too me - it's amazing :) Must be as hard as creating Star Wars movie out of a batch file (but far better graphic :D).
I only saw one other game which level of exploring mode can be compared with HHG and thats "Elevator game with Catgirls".
- make sure no antivirus stops it. Renpy games are stopped automatically by programs like AppCheck and Acronis cause they suspect ransomware (false positive) - then, you'll have to whitelist the game once
- make sure, it is not already running in task manager (if yes and there is no window, its a microsoft bug), kill all instances of that process and try again
- re-download the game as you accidently might corrupt it through moved/copied/deleted file in that directory
- take care of you have enough free disk + memory space left
