Hey all,

If you missed the deadline but still want your game included in the jam, feel free to reach out and I'll add it retroactively!

Hey all,

We're going to have a meetup in the Foresight Games discord on June 18th at 9am PT: https://discord.com/invite/g8CkxYW6na

We'll be sharing the games we're working on for this jam and maybe playtesting if we have time and interest.

Hope to see you there!

Randy

Definitely! I actually think specific games are likely to be more successful, as long as there's a clear path to how someone else might remix them.

Here's a look at the printed Zine:

Nice - Enjoy the game!

There aren't any major content changes in the zine version. It's mostly layout and minor tweaks.

Hey all,

Thanks so much for participating! We've finished judging and here are the winners:

They're all worth checking out! You can read more about the winners, and honorable mentions, in this write-up on Techdirt.

Thanks again and we hope you join us next year for Gaming Like It's 1929.

We just announced them today and updated the main page:

The Winners

Congrats on winning the award for Best Visuals in the Gaming Like It's 1928 jam! Let me know the best way to contact you for you to pick your prize.

Congrats on the winning the award for Best Remix this year! Let me know the best email to reach you at, so you can pick your prize.

Yup - feel free to patch it, Judges will be playing the games in the next few days

Looks great! Can you please send a free copy for the judges to randylubin@gmail.com ?

Hey all,

If you're submitting here, you're likely eligible for the Gaming Like It's 1928, also ending at the end of the month. Submit there if you're interested!

We won't judge PC games but adding a video is a great way for lots of folks to check it out!

Supplements are allowed but will be judged on their own and judges may not be familiar with the core game

That sounds reasonable - thanks for asking!

Thanks for submitting! What 1928 works does this draw inspiration from?

Any genre / mechanics are fine!

The 1928 works won't enter the public domain until January 1st. Then, you'll be able to find many of them at the Internet Archive or HathiTrust.

That's right - 1928 works are fair game. Thanks for catching it!

(1 edit)

Yeah that's fine - but you probably should not publish it before it starts in case it violates copyright law

It’s for describing how the Major Conflict of the setting resolves. For example if the major conflict was between the Mars settlers who want to terraform and the settlers who want to leave Mars natural, perhaps the Conflict Resolution is that they agree to creat giant domed Martian preserves that won’t be affected by the terraforming.

Congrats on the game jam win for Best Visuals! What's the best email address for me to reach out about the prizes?

What's the best email I should use to be in touch about the prize?

Thank you all so much for participating - we'll be back next year for Gaming Like It's 1927!

If you won, I'll be in touch about prizes soon...

Hey! We're going through the final judging steps this week and hope to announce the winners soon... thanks for your patience!

We'll be judging the games over the next couple weeks and will share with the participants as soon as we have results!

Looks like you got it working on itch!

In general though, it's okay to host it externally if necessary

You're also welcome to include a mixture of public domain works, some from 1926 and some from earlier as long as at least one is from 1926.

Hey all – just one week left in this game jam. Let me know if you need any help finishing your game and getting it published!

Hey Jeremy,

I don't have a good way for picking an option and having it stick around but here are a few ways you can do it:

  • Have all of the options on one long card (or modal)
  • Have each on its own card that you click through in sequence and then decide (like you mentioned)
  • Start with all of the options in an editable list and have the players X out all of the others until only the one they want remains
  • Have the options on another webpage that's linked to from the choice card

If you have other suggested ways for doing it, let me know and I'll add it to the roadmap!

Story Synth in a free web platform from making, playing, and sharing prompt driven storytelling games (like For the Queen or The Quiet Year). Designing is as easy as adding prompts (or cards) to a google sheet and then dropping that sheet url in the website. There also an extension that lets you add a basic card drawing module to the games.

If your card game is all about using the cards to look up prompts, give Story Synth a look!

If you make a game with Story Synth, you can also submit it to the Story Synth Summer Game Jam (running through August).

Hey all,

I'm hosting a jam-within-a-jam: The Story Synth One-Hour Game Jam

It'll run on July 31st from 2-4pm PST. We'll quickly design games and then share and play them. Afterward, you can submit your game to the Summer Jam.

If you been thinking about making your first Story Synth game, this a great time to do it!

Hope to see you there,

Randy

Hey y'all,

Super excited for this jam – I watched Yojimbo for the first time a few months ago (as part of a broader Kurosawa  kick) and loved it; I'm already noodling on ideas for a Yojimbo game. I designed Clash at Ikara after watching Seven Samurai so I'm primed to jump in to Kurosawa's oeuvre again!

I have a free web platform, Story Synth, for making prompt driven storytelling games like For the Queen or The Quiet Year, it's what I used to make Clash at Ikara. I just kicked off the Story Synth Summer Jam for folks to make games on the platform.  It's super easy to use, so take a look and think about making a game for Yojambo using Story Synth and then submitting your game to both jams!

Hey y'all,

Super excited for this jam – I love exploring optimistic futures and I'm keen to get started on a submission for this game.
