Neat little game, big fan of the style.

Let me start off by saying all of this is super helpful valid criticism and for that I thank you! :D

Unfortunately when you don’t have anyone play testing your game, you can fall into some weird decisions regarding your game including control layouts. I have super long fingers so this is attributed to my wild control layout for the keyboard. What also might have caused me to overlook it is that I was using an Xbox controller for most of my play testing after I set up the control bindings. You are 100 percent correct about the dialog for save points not needing their own dialog boxes. I am thinking of just replacing it with a small animation where the shrine lights up and a save icon in the upper right corner flashing. I was going to have the player gain the ability to regain health after a short channel when you defeat the first boss but I would also consider giving it to the player right off the bat to hopefully make the game easier. I just want to make sure the game has some “Good Bones” before I end up fully implementing the story. I do require the experience of working on a long term project so I plan to try and do updates and a dev log each month.

I vastly appreciate the feedback and criticism that you provided, Thank you!

Very cool, I got stuck on the chemistry mixing the anti- fire foam near the end. I am not sure why when I mixed the vinegar, soap and baking soda together it would just empty the glass. It might have something to  due with different amounts of each item or perhaps I was just doing it wrong . I think I may have encountered a slight bug where when you start to play the harmonica if you click back to move around the room the music stops playing but after completing the puzzle is goes back to normal. The curser changes put me through a loop at the start as I was interpreting interactable objects as not interactable and vice versa. Graphics, cutscenes, puzzles are all very neat and I quite enjoyed the game. You could add a hint button that the player could use that would point them in the general direction but I don't think its overtly necessary. Fantastic work!

I knew I will missing something! I'll have to add controls to the description and I did program the controls to be rebound, I just didn't finish implementing it yet as I was running out of time before the submission window. I'll be fixing the slimes dying and adding a room reset button for people if they do get stuck. I really appreciated that you gave it a go, I'll checkout your game shortly as well!

A fun gameplay loop with some nice visuals. As I was getting to the later levels I was spending less time worrying about what I was putting on that plate and just making sure that I got as much on the plate before it slid off the conveyor belt. If you wanted to add another way of boosting your points like adding upgrades cards that would show up at the borrow of your screen it would force the player into using more strategy rather than just trying to stuff as much on as possible. The upgrade cards could show how to obtain extra points like rewarding 50 points if the player has three peppers on the omelet and they are all touching. You could also have one for having bacon sandwiched between two peppers. Either way this is just a suggestion so take it with a grain of salt. Good work!

"Dang, that's cool" Is what I would say if I could only write four words to describe this experience.

I don’t think I have ever played a game in a game jam that sucked me in as well as this one did. Everything is super polished to the point of it being up to what I would consider professional standards. The atmosphere and the music are so immersive and masterfully done it took quite a bit to break my immersion when I hit the caged bird puzzle. It did keep me stuck for a little bit but I eventually found the answer, which I won’t spoil here. I am still a fledgling when it comes to game development and art but eventually I hope that I could create something as interesting as this. Also I agree that for some reason my own art always looks better in my memory. Phenomenal work and while art is subjective, I would classify this game as Probably Art.

A fresh take on a classic game. I love the intro animation along with shadow mechanics. Everything was great and I don't really have anything to add. I did try and cheese my way to the end by standing as far from the screen as possible but the pterodactyls got me eventually. Great work!

Well hello everyone!

While I know that most people will be posting updates from game jam’s past, my entry is a little bit different.  I originally started this project Skeletal Legacy as a means to truly learn the game engine game maker studio 2 about two years ago. When I learned of itch.io and game jams around March first of 2023, I stopped working on the project. I didn’t ever post the project as it wasn't finished and haven’t had much feedback on it except from a handful of friends. I figured that this would be a good time to exhume the project, get some feedback from others and decide on the project's fate of either continued development or the post-mortem graveyard (not all projects are winners). I left the project in a semi completed state for the first set of levels of the game but it is still lacking a few things.

What I want to accomplish before the end of the Jam are as follows:

  • Finish the first boss fight implementation
  • Create a cutscene at the start of the first boss fight
  • Streamline the tutorial section so all displayed abilities are properly highlighted
  • Add more music and sound effects
  • Create an Itch.io page that looks nice :)
  • Finish adding controller support for the game
  • Add a ending cutscene specifically for the jam

If I remember correctly, one of the main things that was stopping progress on the project was my lack of knowledge on cutscene creation but hopefully I can take care of that before the end of the jam. I’ll also have to add a link to my project after I finish creating the project page.

I am excited to see everyone's entries and give/get some feedback for the jam!

I got stuck in the wall at the bottom of the screen, the screen turned red and then was murdered somehow. Animation and art are on point. Very well polished, Great work!

Lots of charm and I totally did "not" spam Q the entire time.

It took me a bit to get going but hectic and fun. You don't get much breathing room  but that's part of the fun and you have shadows in spades. Great work!

Very spooky with a neat atmosphere and interesting choice in light mechanics. You die quite quickly and death is very punishing as it sends you all the way back to the beginning. When I started my first run I completely missed the  passage way at the far end of the hall because the screen was so dark but I am not sure if that is related to my monitor settings. Definitely got  quite a lot of shadows and the ability to combine things, that's for sure. Good Work!

There are currently 7 levels with about four different abilities and enemy types.  What tripped you up in the second room? I think it might be a weird interaction that I have with jumping off the chain and if you are holding up it automatically re-grabs it, but I would appreciate the insight. I was rushing near the end to get it all completed but I wanted to have a story about the shadow government coming after the player but had to cut it for time. Thank you for playing my game :)

A fantasic puzzle game with a simple concept and a lot of depth. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of challenges presented. Great work!

If I had more time I would have liked to smooth out the difficulty atleast for the first few rounds or so.  Thank you for playing!

Great work for a first time submission! I am a big fan of the misdirection in the into. A little short like my mother but good stuff!

I was rushing near the end and one of the last things I did was make the start screen. I 100 percent agree about the wonky hitbox for the button. I was also going to have  different intro music play before the game started.  My jam partner got suplexed into next week after the first few days of the jam and was made humble by the monster known as life so this mostly ended up being a solo project. Thank you for the valuable feedback and taking the time to play and rate my game. :)

It should display a current highscore and your overall best highscore.  I'll check into it and give it a fix. Thanks for playing!

You have got to make every bullet count! Very well done with both the gameplay loop and aesthetics

I do like the combat and the aesthetics are great. I do wish the fire button and dash buttons where tied to a different button that would use the right hand. You could use the mouse buttons or perhaps the enter button.(not changing the aiming mechanic , just button placement) but Overall very nice!.

I punted my lemonade  cart into a wall and immediately got run over by a car 10/10

Knocked over the credits pin by accident and assumed that was the end of the game at first.  Great work!

Very neat! I didn't make it into the top leaderboard, but I was close!

The key to victory for me was spamming bombs. Good work on getting something playable submitted!

Adorable and goofy. Well polished and fun. Great work!

I couldn't get approval to join or find the medicine that was dropped by the villager.  Good work!

nooo my hats! I had six before I was cut down. Simple game play that is well polished with great art. Fantastic work!

Very nice! I made it to $480 before I got greedy and was trapped by a bomb.

The interactions of the characters made me chuckle. Short and sweet, good work!

A solid base that shows some potential. I loved the particle effects for blowing up enemies but as you get to the higher levels it starts to obscure the screen a little. I made it to level 11 before getting shot down. Good Job!

The people talking gave me hollow knight flashbacks and the intro story was great. Good work!

I tried face-rolling my keyboard to be granted permanent immunity but did way worse then just timing my slashes.  Good job!

simple mechanics with a gameplay loop that is not super punishing when you fail. Great work!

(1 edit)

I am a big fan of what I assume are floating and dancing sheep. It took me a second to figure out how to go up and down but after that it was smooth sailing. Good work!

Here is mine as wel :  https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2024/rate/2745558 I'll start playing and rating from the top until I clear the list/.

Neat story and very atmospheric. Keep up the good work!

It turns out friendly fire is thing and I totally didn't accidently blow up my ship. Good work!

Really neat! I wanted to spend time reading the diary but it doesn't stop you from getting hungry or thirsty so I just skimmed it . Big fan of the style and theme was not point. Great work!

Oh no, random crashing is not cool. Do you remember any specifics of when it happened? Also, thanks for playing :)

Neat concept that was easy to get into. Great art and style.  I wish there was a few more mechanics to enhance the gameplay in later levels. Very Nice!
