REDUX UPDATE ( 06/28/23)

The Redux update is now live! Enjoy playing through Soul Void with a brand new coat of paint and several QoL improvements. This update includes:

  • An OST
  • Retouched or fully-updated graphics/color palettes
  • A save system
  • Easier to read font and dialogue boxes
  • Movement speed options, easier backtracking, and helpful cheats
  • New and updated NPCs/dialogue/quests
  • Adjustments to map layouts
  • A downloadable ROM for gameboy hardware
  • And many more secrets to discover!

KNOWN ISSUES:

- When loading a save file, the area's music may not play. This can be fixed by hitting a new sound cue (exiting/entering the screen is the fastest way.)

- Sometimes a moving actor may vanish when it intersects with the camera movement at the wrong time. They'll come back with a screen change.

- I don't know if the blank dialogue soft lock still exists and I'm terrified of its ever-looming presence. If this happens, try refreshing the page and reloading a save.

- If the game boots to a black screen while using Chrome, please enable third party cookies for itch.io or this game's url specifically, or consider using a different browser to play!

- Keyboard movement and inputs are case-sensitive (make sure caps lock is off!)

(If you ever find yourself stuck, I've written a guide here that will hopefully be of use! (NOTE: It's a bit out of date, seeing as how it was written for Soul Void's original release, but may still prove helpful!))

if i may ask... did you use a gb studio?

immediately attracted by the art style. The visuals are so cool I was like "I have to play this". Turns out that I'm right--it's one of the best game I've played so far.

this is the best game ive ever played, reminds me of old Zelda games but without the fighting element which is so refreshing <3

(-3)

An old Zelda game without the fighting element? So like literally any top down retro game ever made? lol

This is the best game I've played in a long time! I loved everything about it. It definitely leans into that nostalgic joy of interacting with everything in an old gameboy game and finding secrets.

I also definitely cried way more than I anticipated. I needed something like this more than I realized. Thank you so much for making this  ;n;

Beutiful game. Thank you for making this.

did that girl and james see each other again???

incredible game and story!! i really enjoyed every second of it. i loved all the different environments and storylines, you can really tell there was a lot of effort put into it. 10\10!!!

I played this game years ago and adored it. I'm so excited to download and play it again!

Absolutely amazing!! Took me forever with no help but i wouldn't have it another way, So incredibly creative :)

Fantastic game, gave me chills at a certain point that I won't spoil.

Hey ! I am in LOVE with your game, it inspired me to try and make my first game with the collaboration of many artist from a local collective I work with!

I included a few assets from your game as a way to remember what inspired me! And as a way to honour your amazing art and work!

It is fully free, for a ceramics exhibition (I am mainly a ceramist), the game could be played at a gore clay, latex and recycled materials machine.

I thought id'd be nice to let you know! Hope it is fine!

Have a lovely day<3 and thanks for making Soulvoid!

*My game is made in GB Studio too, story rich, platformer, puzzle, rpg kinda game.

This game is... YES! The story is neat yet spiradic (good thing!), the characters often humorous but sometimes serious, the atmosphere/art you can tell has no much love put into every pixel! Also, the music is incredibly memorable as well, just like everything else in this game! To make a world this coherent yet silly and genuine at the same time takes a true artiste!

I'm assuming the Husk area was self-expressive, and the speech one gives the Husk is unforgettable. Just know that YOU (reading this and the creator) matter because you exist and you should be proud to create and not feel ostracized for "being weird" because being weird is the only thing worth while! The Husk's Art was great, and yours is too! But don't take my word for it, take yours! Thank you!

how do you complete "a lost soul is stuck in a fearful cycle" i have seen the walkthrough but it never said anything about any clocks or that side quest

i found it. you have to break stuff then use a computer then talk to the operator

Awesome game!! Everything worked just fine and, wow, that story! Great work :)

PRAISE BE THE PIT--

PRAISE BE THE PIT

I wanna play the game so bad, but it won't let me select new game, instead it just keeps telling me i dont have any data saved for a game file. what can i do to fix this, im running it on a chromebook on chrome.

Try pressing 'E' instead of 'Enter' it worked for me.

I like the monsters, but the Leech really should have fed on its own guilt. Actually, it always confuses me that *feeding* on someone's positive emotion *diminishes* it, while *feeding* on someone's negative emotion *increases* it. This makes me think that "feeding" is not at all what feeding means.

I was in the end sequence, had just picked up the oval locket, and decided to open my menu and check what the three hearts had to say. When I tried to exit the menu, it crashed and threw this screen.

this has to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful games I’ve ever played, thanks for making a depressed girls bedrot a lil better <3

This game was really beautiful, I've been struggling myself recently and found this game at a really good time. I was really able to connect to the main character, and I resonate with their life a lot. While obviously a video game can't make me navigate through my own life, it does give me some comfort and makes me feel a little less alone, so thank you.

Beautiful and terrifying game! Bravo!! 10/10

I really enjoyed the old feeling of the game. The quests and plot were done very well.  Awesome artwork/graphics too.  ty!

this game was totally worth every minute i spent playing it, 10/10 playing again in the future for sure

I am seriously stupid so I apologise if this is obvious but what are folk using to play this?

I used a Game Boy emulator.

That works?!? huh I gotta get me one o those then...

One of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Compelling story, visually beautiful and simply amazing. I loved every second I spent in this game

(+1)

AHH 10/10 LOVED IT SO MUCH!! The art is so gorgeous and when I finally realized the meaning of the game my mind was blown!??! Played this instead of listening in class and WOULD replay to do it all over again

// spoilers \\

ocd factory was my wakeup call.. after talking to a few of the workers i was like "wait..?!??!"

im yet to finish the experience because i like to poke around in all the little corners and i absolutely love it so far! the designs, the dialogue, the easter eggs are all wonderful and this is slowly becoming one of the best game experiences, especially horror rpgs, i've had in a long long time

as a side note, i cant help but wonder - is author a magnus archives fan by any chance...? a lot of the things seem like a nod to it (like the circus with no-face people, general eye/flesh direction etc). extremely cool if so, same hat!!

(-1)

Dude the ending almost made me cry this was so flipping good im suprised it was free really great game it was never too boring or too frustrating i would pay any amount of money to play if there was a part 2 or somthing keep doing what ur doin

(+1)(-1)

very Undertale esque but like way more bitter sweet. I cried and then laughed and then cried and it was a special thing

(+1)

dude the visuals are amazing!! this game is so bittersweet...i look forward to more from you!

We loved this game so much! Thank you for making it!
