Hi Team,

unable to convert this value as an unique identifier and getting null values

SELECT try_convert(uniqueidentifier,''9UIC32D1-932-4V03-45E9-FGSGDASASDATY'')testid

Hi @Vineet S

Because the value is not valid GUID type. TRY_CONVERT returns NULL when the convert fail.

There is no other solution then get a valid GUID.

In addition to what Olaf said, look at this:

You may note that your value is group differently from the string representation of a real GUID.

In case you don't know: A GUID is a 16-byte value. It is commonly represented as a string value with 32 hex digits and some hyphen thrown into fixed places.

I don't know what you have, but if you think it is a representation of a GUID, you need to talk with someone who gave you the data to find out how to interpret the string. But since there are letters from all over the alphabet, this seems to be a lot more than 16 bytes.

What do you mean with this question? Your string is not a GUID, or at least not a GUID with a format that we know of.

I got my sample GUID by using the newid() function, but I could just as well taken one from the Windows registry or any other place where there are GUIDs.

Maybe you should give us some context how you get hold of this GUID-sort-of-lookalike? Maybe then we could come up with some advice of what you should do.
