Yes, that is correct. CMIS is not supported in SharePoint Online. However, it is available by default in SharePoint Server for on-premises deployment.

Sorry, we don't know when SharePoint Online will support CMIS at this time, but you can make a suggestion and vote on SharePoint Online support for CMIS on this SharePoint Feedback portal.
We are always looking for ways to improve SharePoint, and your feedback and suggestions are very valuable.
