Not Another Sad Meal
After a difficult breakup, and a long night of drinking, you decide to take your life back and put things back in order. Starting with a simple meal. Treat yourself!
Not Another Sad Meal is a parser cooking sim where you can make 1 out of 3 meals, and set yourself back on the right path!
[ Sad Spice DLC now included ]
Not Another Sad Meal was made for the Recipe Jam, an Interactive Fiction game jam centred around recipes. The recipe of the mentioned dishes can be downloadable below (TBA).
How to play:
As a parser, the game requires commands to advance through the cooking process, through player inputs. Most command use the { VERB + NOUN } format, some only the { VERB } format, and a part of the cooking portion requires a preposition { VERB + NOUN + PREP + NOUN }.
Some examples: { WAIT }, { TAKE EGGS }, { PUT EGGS ON TOAST }.
Interactive elements are highlighted and clickable - and will execute an action if clicked. The game also includes a help menu and an in-game walkthrough (also downloadable below).

What engine is this game written in? I really like the interface. I thought it was Inform, but it didn’t really look like the usual Inform browser games.
Or is it really just a heavily skinned Inform?
Hiya! It's Adventuron, a retro text-adventure program. Free to use, only for non-commercial projects.
Pretty easy for short adventure, gets complicated for larger ones xD
I see. Thanks!
loved this, very cute, went ahead and shared it with some friends. thanks for making & publishing!
Oh thank you!!
Loved the details. I played again to find hidden messages in red herrings. It’s very engaging.✨ Cooking can be really a form of self—healing.
Thank you <3
I love it too! When I feel down, I make my favourite comfort recipes. It helps so much!
Very good writing on this one. I like it :)
Thank you!
1.Just as entertaining as "An Eggcellent Preparation", despite the difference in vibe. Got the happy ending of Fancy Noodles! That Hey! at the end cracked me up😂 You promise MC a time of recovery, relief and happiness and then close it with a maybe😂 Trolling at its finest😂
2. I'm noticing a pattern in your work: the drunk protagonists waking up with a big headache from a hangover and EGGS. Somehow every recipe included eggs :(
3.Would you mind changing the color of the highlighted text which uses green? It's a bit difficult to see when playing on a black background?
Random example
Thank you!
1- heheheheheh
2- I do love a good hangover trope! So I can just be sarcastic and poke fun at
myself...the MC.Eggs can be substituted with Tofu for the Noodles, and any other protein for the toast (in real life, not in-game).
3- That's strange... I have a bright green on my end (see screenshot) and it is coded as light green in the file...
Do you, by any chance, use some sort of Dark Mode extension that changes the brightness of colours?
Oh! Yes, I do use dark mode extension on Brave Browser. I guess that's what's causing the problem.
Yup, that'll do it. The export for that game is an HTML file so the extension would see it as a normal webpage to force dark mode...
