(not so) strangers in the night
Zach and Irene decide to play a little game tonight.
What could go wrong with pretending to be strangers... ?
This short interactive fiction piece was created for the SeedComp!, ShuffleComp and the Zach Jam.
Made in Twine/Harlowe.
It was inspired by the song Lola + Joseph by July Talk (YouTube).
It also used in parts the following seeds: 100 photographs by BenyDanette, 1 link = 1 viewpoint change by CrocMiam, and 60 Pieces of Architecture. by MartynJBull.
It has a character named Zach.
Content Warning:
Not super NSFW, but it has a make-out scene at the end.
Car sound, mention of alcohol, self-deprecation
French translation TBA.

Just opened it after downloading it on itch.io (desktop computer) and this is how it looks like. The text overlaps with the text.
Hi!
Yeah... the itch.io desktop app often messes with Twine projects unfortunately (my guess comes from the "fake browser wrapper" they create when opening the game through the Desktop App).
It has happened with multiple of my projects, in kind of a random way. I've never got an answer from itch about to fix it.
I recommend you play Twine games on browser only.
Really liked the look of this game, between the color scheme and placement of the dithered images. And the sound effects, especially the door opening/closing sounds. Just like a real store! Creative interpretation of the Shufflecomp song as well, though the "first meeting" probably could have gone better... They sure made up in the end, though. It'd be nice to have more meaningful choices, wonder what a more heavily branching version of this story would be like. Ways to make the date better/worse, perhaps?
Thanks!
I wanted to stay closer to the "source material" for the story ( cause I couldn't think of better alternative paths let's be honest... xD)
A more heavily branching version would have strayed maybe too much from that, I think? Though, you're right, it would be interesting.
Like getting it so wrong it just ruins the whole thing and they go home frustrated?
