#1. GrandPerspective (Free)

This 20-year old app is truly unsexy. In other words, ugly. Look how ugly it is 🤢:

But there’s a catch.

It’s as ugly as the number of files you have in a folder. Lemme explain.

I’m one of those guys who stores millions of files on his Mac. Exaggeration, I know — but yeah, so many files.

When I run GrandPerspective on a greatⁿ grandfather folder with a huge family tree below, such an arbitrary pattern of blocks comes up. (Formally called Tree Map)

Each block depicts a file inside the directory, and the area of each block is proportional to the file’s size. (TLDR: Larger the block, larger the file)

Ex: A square of 1GB file will be approx 1000x larger than a square of 1MB file.
