Fifth Liverpool Meetup

[edit]

Saturday, 21 July 2012, from 13:00

[edit]

Venue: The Richard John Blackler (Wetherspoon's), Units 1 & 2, Charlotte Row, Great Charlotte Street, Liverpool, L1 1HU
Coordinates: 53.406001°, -2.979312°
(Other suggestions welcome!)

This is the organisation page for the fifth Liverpool Wikimedia meetup. A wikimeet is a social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts. Where we...

  • Chat about Wikipedia, Wikimedia and any other topics we fancy.
  • Eat lunch and drink some beers (although beer isn't required, nor is lunch)

Wikimeets are mainly casual social events. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians, however this is also an open invite for anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Also wiki technology, MediaWiki, or discussing the business impact of mass collaboration. Anything of interest to Wikipedia:WikiProject Merseyside will also be relevant here. Feel free to come along and raise these discussions over a beverage of your choice.

Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Most of those who signed up managed to attend, even me! Initial greetings and eatings occurred in the Richard John Blackler, a city centre venue somewhat bizarrely occupied otherwise by large amounts of police (due to a demo), WAGS and a singularly small stag do adorned by a limply inflated plastic penis of dubious verisimilitude. Such is life, so we adjourned to The Globe in Cases Street, a pub noted for its sloping floor, not that that matters to committed Wikimedians, who are perhaps used to the rug being pulled from under them. A lengthy and well-lubricated, but always friendly, discussion ensued for the following few hours- as expected. Those around us (actually, one guy, Pete) seemed a bit bemused by our presence, but left us alone (although actually Pete, who initially seemed little more than an incipiently comatose drunk, opened up when engaged in conversation, and turned out to be a decent guy, and probably enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed his). On a personal note, it was good to get out and meet other Wikimedians, although I could have done without falling off my stool, banging my head- good job a medic was on hand, AND THE HEADACHES HAVE GONE AWAY, I TELL YOU!!
