Novel Story is a single-player role playing game about the history of a novel, its story, its adaptations, its influences. You'll select a character (a fan, academic, biographer, etc.) who is tracing the history of the novel and answer prompts to define the novel's story and themes, as well as publishers, adaptations, and more. By the end you'll have a unique story changed by many characters and through decades of time. Play to create a unique story, or to seed your fictional world with a ubiquitous piece of fiction adopted into several forms of media.

Tell the story of a magical young adult mystery about revenge, written by a well-read academic which was adapted into a streaming series!

Find out how a blue collar worker's first action/adventure novel was stolen by a fake publisher!

Explore the details of a bright science fiction story about dystopia and religion, adapted decades later into an indie video game!

What you Need to Play:

  • Something to write with
  • A six-sided die (d6)
  • A twelve-sided die (d12)
  • A way to keep time (watch, clock, etc.)

such a good game! I love the way the plot of the novel is generated, and the prompts were so evocative, I really got into this. A lovely way to spend an hour or so <3
