This painting of my father, Harry, was created using a family photo for reference.
It was probably the last photo taken of him in about 1948, just a year before
he passed away at the age of 51. His hair had started turning white a few years before
and by the time he passed, it was white. He suffered from stomach cancer.
I was only ten years old when he passed, so I don't have many memories of him,
but all I have are great. He was a kind, quiet man with an impeccable work ethic.
He raised a family of seven through the lean years of the depression with dignity
and resolve. Through hard work, when he could find it, he took the family
on fishing trips (to provide food), did any job available, and raised a garden
that helped sustain us... no food lines for him.
He was a good man.
