Entering service in June 1939 she had made two trips to New York before the start of WW2, she was then tied up in New York until March 1940
The decision was made to convert her to a troopship and she sailed to Sydney, Australia for conversion, during her roll as a troopship she sailed 870,000 Km and carried and carried 340,000 troops.
In 1947 she was returned to commercial use and continued in service until being retired in 1965
