FlaggedRevs: consider moving the 'review' column of Special:PendingChanges closer to the page column
Closed, ResolvedPublic1 Estimated Story Points

Description

Since the conversion to codex, Special:PendingChanges uses a fullsize table to display pages with unreviewed versions. Before it has been a bulleted list with all the links very close to each other.

After the change, some high-volume reviewers on dewiki mentioned that they find the table layout harder to use, mainly because the columns they use the most, the page column and the review column, are now much more apart from each other which requires them to move the mouse and the eyes more horizontally. To work against this effect, the 'review' column could be moved before the page column. This also makes sense as 'review' is the main action you take from Special:PendingChanges so it should be beneficial to have it easily accessible.

Oh, we at Ruwiki are of the same opinion. I talked about it in

As a member/admin of pl.wiki I support moving this column as first after name of article. This is button that is used most common on this page, so it should be accesible faster.

I was thinking of putting it on the far left. Any objections to that?

sounds good:

  1. review-symbol
  2. page
  3. size
  4. since
  5. watching

(actually the text of the review-links could be the size (instead of the constant "review"), such that the separate 'size' row would be superfluous and could be omitted, however this is a topic for another ticket and should be discussed with the power users in advance.)

I actually object, second column looks much better to me.

As a plwiki admin and patroller I think that this change will be beneficial and helpful for people

form follows function. a table should be functional at first. good looking is secondary.

normally reviewers decide very fast whether they want to review a page. in many cases the first syllables of a title are enough decide. (and in german and english one reads from left to right.)
the review button should be very near to the (begin of) the corresponding page title.
but page titles have different lengths.
if the review button column is the first one, then the distance is minimal.
if the review button column is the second one, then the distance varies and is large for short page titles (if there is at least one long page title anywhere in the table).

so i think it would be better to have that button in the very first column.
