The Inanimate Mr Coatrack
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Dr. Victor Bernhardt is on the verge of conquering the last great frontier... Death.
Everything is ready, thanks to the recently deceased Argyle Coatrack, who donated his organs for science... though only his brain was salvageable after his fatal fall from a 3rd story window. But... Mr. Coatrack wouldn't let a little thing like that set him back!
The Inanimate Mr. Coatrack is a bawdy buddy-comedy adventure full of sweary undead shenanigans, jokes about willies, and plenty of dismembered limbs!

Thank you very much for this funny game.
More please.
You guys need to make more games like this, I have not laughed so much at a game. Well made, great story, only problem is I need more of it
Unfortunately this one crashed on me like 3 times at different places.. and I kept forgetting to save!
Oh no! I've had a few reports of problems with this game over the last few years. Maybe just the particular unity version I was on at that point or something. I never found any obvious bug...
That was SO much fun! The dialogs are funny, the color palettes are amazing the plot is interesting and the voice acting is perfect! Dr. Victor Bernhardt reminds me of E. A. Poe for some reason. Not sure if that was intentional or it's just me.
Thanks for all your comments! Really appreciate them, glad you're enjoying our games!
"what character did Adrian Vaughan voice in this game?"
yes
It's a one man tour-de-force!
I figure this is pretty much a technical demo for PowerQuest, but the very constant problems with the lagging almost defeated the purpose...
Luckily I stumbled upon Loco Motive right after and I changed my opinion about the engine.
In any case, entertaining point and click adventure, short enough, not too challenging but with a nice Frankenstein backstory, decent pixel art and hilarious dialogues and voice acting.
Ah someone else had that issue, I think I just messed up the settings for the VO lines so they take ages to load for some people, since I haven't had the issue on any other projects... It was a game jam though, def not intended as a tech demo ;)
took alot of unexpected turns in terms of plot but a really entertaining and funny game 😂 really enjoyed it
glad to hear it :D
Masterpiece
:D
Yeah, so.... I was really excited about the game at first, even when it constantly lags but I just gave up when I read that I would have to start the game from the beginning due to the "crowbar" (s. below in comments) bug - I don't have time for that, it's just dissapointing and irritating. I would gladly start the game once again when it's fixed. At this point it's unplayable in my opinion.
I fixed that bug back when that below comment was made, so it *shouldn't* be happening to you...
Hey, it's great as always. I will say though, I've hit a bug to where I've already knocked out Ms. Cock, and the professor was confronted by Coatrack but I hadn't gotten the crowbar yet. I've been stuck on it for half an hour and am pretty sure I can't continue. When I click on the professor's door the protag says "He seems somewhat putout" ect. I need the crowbar to advance, yet cannot contact the professor.
Hmm, it's possible. Though I thought I fixed that bug way back. So you can't enter Marburys room anymore? You should get the crowbar when you look at the arm on his desk (from memory).
Yeah, it wouldn't let me through the door. Originally I had entered the professors office and spoke with him but didn't click on anything. It's been a week so the details are hazy but I remember not wanting to advance yet so I left his office. After leaving the hallway to a different room and coming back to the hallway the "Oh I know him, he murdered me." event triggered. If there's a way I can give you an event log let me know. I really want to finish it, but I'm gonna wait a bit so I don't just click through the dialogue trying to get back to where I was, instead I'd like to experience it fully again to give it a fair chance. I love your style and I miss these kinds of games. Thanks for the great hours, the laughs, and reliving my childhood.
Ah, yeah, I found the problem, I'd stuffed up the logic (assumed if you look at the arm, you'd also talk to Marbury about it). I just patched it, but unfortunately you'd have to play again from the start to get out of the broken state :(
Hi Dave, Barney and team! It's excellent, with so much personality. This is impressive. I feel I am in 1993, back in a new mansion. Thank you! I am now waiting for The Drifter, and will support all your upcoming P&C games. :)
The game is TOTALLY AWESOME !
/One thing though is that it lags quite often, which is pretty strange considering the size of the file - the more into the gameplay the longer the lags get./
Oh, wierd. It lags before dialogue plays right? I think it's the way I compressed the audio, I'll have to fiddle around with it. Are you using windows?
Yes, Win 10. It sometimes lags before a dialogue, but also when changing a location e.g. entering Dr Kochbaum's room. Couple of times the app stopped responding for a while.
Enjoyed your game as usual, guys! Only thing I'd suggest is turning the volume of the music and effects down a bit in relation to the dialogue. The voice work gets drowned out in a lot of places. Otherwise, great job! P.S. I'd love to see you do something with https://pixelshuh.itch.io/. I'm sure it'd be great!
Everyone who was involved in this game has a lot of talent. Keep making games!! Anyway, here's the final part:
Most funny game I've played all year!! Here's part 2
I loved this game so much. It reminds me of classic adventure games. The humor/art/characters. This is the first episode of my let's play of it...🧟
This was amazing! I wanna play more of this! :D The humor was spot on! I'm so sad it's over
Yes, yes, yes, a million times yes! This is another triumph for Powerhoof, an amazingly well put together point and click adventure game with more genuine laugh out loud moments than I've come across in a game for ages!
The characters are amazing, the voice acting is amazing, the whole look of the game is amazing and the head-scratching puzzles are also amazing. Oh, and the story itself is also, wait for it... amazing!
Take the reins as Dr. Bernhardt, a (moderately) insane genius trying to create life. But Frankenstein's Monster this certainly ain't! The person we bring back to life is the rambunctiously raucous Argyle Coatrack, who in life was a man of finer tastes... such as a good full English with a side-order of extra-marital affairs with a smattering of STD's for dessert. With our new disgustingly unhealthy best friend by our side we must get around a potential love interest and an arch-nemesis before we can show off our god-like efforts to the world!
If you're a fan of old school comedy point and clickers then you absolutely have to get this downloaded and played immediately. Without delay. Right now. Do it. Do it. DO IT!
Some loading time issues but other than that very funny wee game
Oh, see what you mean about the loading issues. I must have messed up the audio loading settings in the last build. Oops!
These things happen :)
My biggest problem with this game is it's far too short.
The characters are memorable. The writing is ludicrous. The soundtrack fits it extremely well. I love how it goes from 0 to 100 with the innuendo. It's a very modern point-and-click with a vero retro art style. However, I definitely understand that almost 'breaking the fourth wall' humour may not go over well with some.
Suffice to say I felt cheated when it ended. I definitely want more from this world and these characters. I'd love to see a full game.
Absolutely amazing!!
The production value is through the roof and the humor got a couple of chuckles out of me
Amazing game! The voice acting was really good and I liked the puzzles in this point and click game. The story and witty characters really created a great world and the art style was beautiful. Very enjoyable experience :D
I don't know if you've heard of Game Development World Championship before (gdwc2019) but it's a competition for indie game developers where they can submit their games and it's free! It's great if you want some more visibility for the game and it only takes a couple of minutes to join :)
Round two to finish it off! I did have some trouble figuring out what I needed to do and what items let me move forward, but damn was that story worth it. You all continue to impress and I look forward to your next venture!
THIS GAME WAS AMAZING!! I haven't played such an amazing game in months and this took me by surprise the humor was perfect. The language caught me by surprise but fit in perfect. Amazing vocabulary only one issue, I didn't talk with one guy at the start which made we restart the game later. Luckily it isn't too long so I got back on track. Thanks for an a great game worth the play!
Video:
Great Graphics, Great sounds, Great story, Great voice acting. Just... Great everything. Another powerhoof and sea dads winner. Top stuff... :)
Well written and genuinely funny! Some really good Lucasarts vibes here.
My. This game, albeit short, was... definitely worth playing! As a person who is a sucker for visual novels with characters worth caring for (and, I might add, is also quite a fan of your other earlier works) this does far from disappoint me. The absurdly comedic but playful script, the unique cartoon-esque art style, the characters' personalities and developments, and the talents of the voice actors breathing life into what would otherwise be just another game where you imagine the voices for yourself.
The voice actors are simply what gives this game such soul and depth, and I absolutely loved how the characters interacted with each other in this overall twist on the frankenstein narrative.
Truthfully, my only complaint about this game is that it is short. But that's something I've acknowledged since I started the game, considering the fact that it was only made in two weeks. I feel like this game, along with a few of your other works, could really benefit if they were given a continuation, or, to a larger extent, a fully-fledged game release!
That's my opinion on the game, spoiler-free. Thank you and your team for another memorable experience!
This was just spectacular no wonder it won 1st place at Adventure Jam 2019!! This is an amazing point and click that some a very rich and sick narrative. The character banter is some of the best I have seen in a long time. After a complete playthrough I can honestly say this is one of the best games I have played in 2019. The joke are non stop and will have you rolling!! Well Done!!
I truly do not care for point and click adventure games, yet time and time again, yours are the exception. The art is gorgeous, the writing is hilarious and the voice work is superb. Looking forward to finishing this off :)
