Abstract
Reviews the main forms of trust, distinguishing between traditional and institutional trust. This article focuses on trust and its benefits in global collaboration, including cross-national teamwork within global companies as well as alliances between companies from different countries. Three stages in trust building are outlined. The 1st is to establish the basis on which people and their companies are prepared to work together. The 2nd is to start to develop trust through a positive experience of working together that strengthens mutual understanding between the partners or team members. The 3rd stage generally comes out of an extended period of fruitful collaboration, when the people involved come genuinely to like each other and establish a personal bond. Guidelines for practice are identified that cultivate these foundations for trust.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
