(A) Stand-up to
Protect Our Vote
A short tech comedy set, as a fundraiser for 1-866-OUR-VOTE, the Election Protection Hotline.
What is this?
A fundraising drive for the Election Protection Hotline. No matter your position on the 2024 US election, if you're an engineer, I'm guessing you want the votes counted fairly.
Donate at least USD $100 -- you'll get an email with a link so you can watch the live performance online on Saturday, October 26. (Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000, through a match provided by a longtime Election Protection Volunteer.)
Throughout the election cycle, our volunteers provide voter information, document problems they encounter when voting, host voter protection field programs and work with partners and volunteers on the ground to identify and remove barriers to voting. All of our work is focused on protecting and defending the right to vote – we will provide guidance and information to help any American.
Who
Sumana Harihareswara, programmer and comedian. Has done stand-up at !!Con, SeaGL, Open Source Bridge, GUADEC, the GSoC Mentors' Summit, and more.
No election jokes
Expect 8 minutes of nerd jokes about open source software and how programming skews your brain, and none about politics.
(Only 8 minutes because that's as long as a stand-up meeting should be.)
Anyone can donate
Not a US resident or US citizen? Hate all the major parties? No problem! You're donating to Election Protection via The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a nonpartisan US nonprofit founded in 1963.
(Need assistance donating? Contact Lawyers' Committee. Didn't get the confirmation email with the event link? Email Sumana.)
