Our vision
GrowSmarter: transforming cities for a smart, sustainable Europe
In a rapidly urbanising world cities need to become smarter to respond to citizen needs and to reduce their environmental footprint. GrowSmarter brought together cities and industry to integrate and demonstrate ‘12 smart city solutions’ in energy, infrastructure and transport, to provide other cities with valuable insights on how they work in practice and opportunities for replication.
The idea was to create a ready market for these smart solutions to support growth and the transition to a smart, sustainable Europe.

GrowSmarter kicked off on 1 January 2015 and ran until 31 December 2019. The project received €25 million in funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
“Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding.
It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.” Excerpt from the Horizon2020 website
