Ignite 2023 updates.

Kiran Madnani Partner Director, Product Management, Azure.

Cloud adoption continues to grow, driven by the need for a secure platform with innovative tools for increasing productivity. Azure is equipped to address the changing threat landscape and mitigate risks for customers. At the same time, the productivity gains offered by developments in AI such as Microsoft Copilot for Azure are too compelling for any customer to ignore. Thus, Azure continues to be the trusted platform for most customers to achieve their desired outcomes.

Innovations lead to cost optimization.

During Microsoft Ignite, we show our continued commitment to cost optimization by highlighting Azure Migrate features that provide deeper insights while helping you move and manage new workloads. Benefit from the secure and powerful capabilities of Azure and Microsoft’s deep expertise, by moving with Azure Migrate.

Azure Migrate is Microsoft’s free hub for migrating and modernizing in Azure.

It provides discovery, assessment, business case analysis, planning, migration, and modernization capabilities in a consistent manner across workloads. All this while allowing you to run and monitor the proceedings from a single, secure portal. At Ignite, we are excited to share these Azure Migrate updates:

  • Envision readiness and cost (TCO): Customers moving to the cloud often struggle with decisions around management tools and associated costs. We are happy to share that beginning in December, Azure Migrate business case feature will include management cost and savings for services such as Azure Backup, Azure Update Manager and Azure Monitor. This is in addition to security readiness and cost for Microsoft Defender for Cloud (MDC) and Windows and SQL Server with ESU.

  • New workloads: We continue to add support for new workloads to help cover more of your migration needs. With Azure Migrate you can now assess readiness and estimate cost for your Spring web apps moving to Azure Spring Apps and ASP.NET on Internet Information Server (IIS) to App Service Container. This will allow you to plan and budget in a more comprehensive manner.

  • End-of-support (EOS) and Extended Security update (ESU) support:Azure Migrate will now support in-place upgrade of end-of-support (EOS) Windows Server 2008 R2 and later operating systems (OS), during the move to Azure. You can elect to move applications and databases to a fully supported, compatible and secure operating system such as Windows server 2016 or 2019, in Azure. Detect and mitigate any app-compatibility risks by upgrading to a test environment in Azure without any impact on production workloads. This helps you confirm functionality before cutting-over to Azure. Thus, protecting investments in legacy applications while upgrading to a more secure platform at no additional cost. As an alternative, you may also move to the same OS in Azure with free extended security updates (ESU) until October 2026.

  • Application and code assessment: Determine health and cloud readiness of your .NET and Java applications using the deep insights provided by the new “Azure Migrate application and code assessment” feature. The free assessment report generated prior to migrations can save you time and cost over-runs. Please see this blog for more details on how to use this feature.

To reiterate, our recent offers - Azure Migrate and Modernize and Azure Innovate, help with all your cloud adoption needs and introduce you to exciting innovations in Azure.
