Your skills are a crucial part of your LinkedIn profile. This topic tells you how to use a screen reader to add your skillset to your profile. We have tested the topic with JAWS, Narrator, NVDA in Microsoft Edge, VoiceOver, the built-in iOS screen reader, and TalkBack, the built-in Android screen reader which adheres to common accessibility standards and techniques. Different screen readers and web browsers might behave differently.

To add your skills with screen reader support:

To open the Me menu on the LinkedIn homepage, press the Tab key until you hear “Me button, collapsed,” and then press Enter.

To open your profile, press the Tab key until you hear “View Profile,” and then press Enter. Your profile page opens.

To start adding your skills, press the Tab key repeatedly until you hear “Add new skill,” and then press Enter. The Add skill pop-up window opens.

To add a skill, press the Tab key until you hear “Skill,” and then type the skill you want to add. LinkedIn offers you suggestions of skills matching what you typed. Use the Down and Up arrow keys to browse the suggestions, and then press Enter to select a skill.

To select the positions where you have put this skill to use, press the Tab key to move the focus to your positions. You hear “Experience,” followed by the information of the first position in the list. Use the Tab key and Shift+Tab to move forward and backward in the list, and press Spacebar to select each applicable position.

After selecting all relevant positions, press Shift+Tab until you hear “Save button,” and then press Enter. You hear “Additional info".

To add more skills, press the Tab key until you hear “Add skill button,” and then press Enter. Repeat steps 5-7 to add all the skills you want to highlight. If you have finished adding skills, press the Tab key until you hear “No thanks button,” and then press Enter.
The focus returns to your profile page.

Open the LinkedIn mobile app. By default, the focus is on the Menu button in the upper-left corner of the screen, and you hear “Access my profile and other navigation links.” If you hear something else, swipe left until you hear “Menu button.”

To open the menu, double-tap the screen. You hear “Close menu button.”

To open your profile, swipe right once, and then double-tap the screen. You hear “Back button.”

To start adding your skills, swipe right repeatedly until you hear “Add new skill button,” and then double-tap the screen. The Add skill pop-up window opens.

To add a skill, swipe right until you hear “Skill,” and then double-tap the screen. Type the skill you want to add with the on-screen keyboard.
