- In the digital era, the organizations that we deal with collect a lot of information about individual people and their actions. From credit card transactions to educational records, every one of us generates a really significant trail of data behind us, and we're rightfully concerned about the privacy of that information. As IT professionals, we have a few interests in how organizations collect and use personal information. First, we're obviously concerned about our own private information. I want to understand who has information about me and what they're doing with it. Second, we have a responsibility to educate the users in our organizations about how they can protect their own personal information. And third, we have a responsibility to assist the privacy officials within our organization with the work that they need to do to protect the personal information that's entrusted to us.
