- You could say that if you didn't have a past, nobody would bother you, but we all have a past. We all allow ourselves to be triggered by it and to be drawn into conflict, telling ourselves that the other person is difficult, rude, manipulative, and you know what? They may be. But remember our mantra. It's never about the other person ever, even when it is. So I want to offer you a couple of closing thoughts. The first one is about noticing. If you notice that a conversation is starting to go south and that people are either shutting down or blowing up, that's your cue to pause, step in, and help people identify the real issues and needs. Next, remember that it's okay to fail. If you find yourself reacting and pointing fingers, rewind and start over. When you have a clunky conversation, it'll teach you where you need more practice.
