Types of inductors
- [Instructor] Inductors are sometimes easy to recognize because they look like a bunch of coiled wires. If you've ever looked inside some of your larger electronic devices, you've probably seen inductors that look like this. Most likely located near the devices power supply. The majority of inductors that you'll find will have their wires wrapped around a ferromagnetic material like iron or ferrite, which acts as the inductors core to enhance the magnetic field. Having the core enables the inductor to have a higher inductance and store more energy using fewer loops of wire. There are three main characteristics to look for in an inductor. The first is the inductance, which will be measured in units of henrys. Additionally, the inductor will have a certain amount of DC resistance, which is the resistance of the wires in the coil when a constant current is flowing through it.
