Summary: Every person is capable of learning more, doing more, and being more than we can ever imagine. People are only limited by the creativity, understanding, and willingness of their teachers to look for the right way to teach each unique brain. The most effective way to make education accessible to all learners is by increasing teacher efficacy and providing strong tools and strategies that support better instruction through proven and innovative inclusive practices. My passion is making education accessible to all learners. This passion was sparked at an early age as I helped my brother with learning disabilities struggle through school. I was further inspired by my mother and grandmother, who worked in public schools. Their stories and insights taught me that no two brains are created the same. When my daughters were born and it became evident that they were on the autism spectrum, what started as a passion became what can only be described as a mission. I knew my girls needed more than most public schools in 2009 were capable of providing for them, because most teachers were not and still are not well-versed in educating students with differences. I threw myself into learning everything I could about how to create equity for diverse learners-- especially my diverse learners-- in every classroom. Sharing that learning with others is how I advocate for my children and advocate for the children of other parents who do not have the experience or educational background that I have. Special education has become the platform for my mission. I not only strive to transform the learning of struggling students, but also to transform the instructional practices of the general educators that work with students of all abilities, making the classroom a place where all can learn together.
