The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will convene the 2024 Symposium on the Question of Jerusalem “Jerusalem and the Gaza War: Palestinian Identity and Existence Under Threat of Erasure” on 1 July 2024 (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) at OIC Headquarters, Jeddah.
The joint event will highlight Israel’s policies of forced displacement and dispossession of the Palestinian people in the City through accelerated “Judaization”, in the context of similar efforts elsewhere in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), and particularly in light of Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza and onslaught and massive forced displacement of the Palestinian civilian population. The Symposium will also show the Committee’s support to the OIC call for international action to stop Israel’s war in Gaza and to relaunch the Middle East Peace Process based on international law and UN resolutions leading to a comprehensive and sustainable peace as well as the independence of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The opening session will include the OIC Secretary-General, the UN General Assembly Palestine Committee Chair and a Representative of the State of Palestine. The panel discussion will feature the Minister for Jerusalem of the State of Palestine and Palestinian civil society representatives. The Symposium will be followed, in the afternoon, by an event on Palestine organised by the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC).
All Member States and Observers, United Nations organisations, intergovernmental and civil society organisations present in Saudi Arabia have been invited to attend. The meeting is open to the media. The proceedings will also be webcast live via the OIC YouTube Channel.
