What’s New in
DuckDuckGo

We're constantly making improvements to our product. Every quarter, we’ll post the best of our most recent updates here.

Q2 2024

Improved Anonymized Location Menu

We made it easier to view and change your anonymous local search area — right within the Maps Instant Answer! If you have our privacy-protecting location services enabled, you’ll see your anonymized location above the map when you search for something near you. Refresh, disable, or manually set a custom location by clicking Update Location.

Improved Local Search Results

Local results for popular business categories like movie theaters, urgent care centers, libraries, veterinarians and more are now more relevant, to help you find what you need in your immediate area.

Bugfixes and Improvements for Maps

We fixed several bugs in the expanded map view, including one that caused certain Directions searches to return no results when “Your Location” was the origin or destination. We also made the Maps user experience more consistent across all platforms.

Private Autocomplete Suggestions for Recently Visited Sites

Recent searches and websites from your browsing history will appear as autocomplete suggestions when searching in the browser. To protect your privacy, recent sites are only stored on your device and can be cleared with the Fire Button. You can opt out of recently visited sites in search suggestions by going to Settings > Private Search.

Updated Browser Settings

We redesigned our settings menu to make it easier to view and manage built-in privacy protections.

View any website in dark mode, regardless of whether the site offers it with this new setting. You have the option to use this setting if your Theme is set to “Dark” in DuckDuckGo or if you pick “System theme” and Dark Mode is also enabled for your device.

Password Management Improvements

Importing passwords from other browsers and password managers is now more streamlined. We also made it even easier to save and update passwords as you browse, via the optional Passwords address bar shortcut. Manage saved passwords, identities, payment methods, and more from Settings > Passwords & Autofill.

Persistent Page Zoom for Individual Websites

If you zoom in or out on individual websites, the browser will automatically remember your preferences and apply the same magnification level the next time you visit those sites. Your preferences are saved locally and will be reset when you use the Fire Button.

Improved Tab Management

You can now duplicate and batch-close tabs. Right-click a tab to access the new options from the context menu. We also added more preferences for new tab behavior in Settings > General > Tabs, letting you decide how links will open and where new tabs will appear.

Bookmark All Tabs

Bookmark all your open tabs in one step. Find this option in the […] menu under Bookmarks > Bookmark All Tabs.

Launched DuckDuckGo AI Chat

We introduced AI Chat — an anonymous way to access popular AI chatbots. We currently offer access to Open AI’s GPT-4o mini, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, and open-source models Meta Llama 3 70B and Mistral’s Mixtral 8x7B, with more to come. Chats are private, anonymized by us, and not used to train AI models. Completely separate from DuckDuckGo Private Search, this optional feature is free to use within a daily limit, and can easily be switched off.

Find DuckDuckGo AI Chat at duck.aiduckduckgo.com/chat, on your search results page via the Chat tab, or by using the !ai and !chat bang shortcuts, which all take you to the same place.
