In Coney Island, New York Patrick Bertoletti ate an official 58 hot dogs and buns in 10-minutes during the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for his first Mustard Colored Belt. On the women's side, Miki Sudo won her 12th Pink Colored Belt by consuming an official 51 hot dogs and buns in the same amount of time.

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest has been a staple of the United States' Independence Day holiday. Since 1967, the competition is held outside their Coney Island franchise at Surf and Stillwater Avenues. During the COVID Pandemic, the competition was moved indoors and also onto the field at the Brooklyn Cyclones' Maimonides Park for public health.

Before the hot dog eating contests, was Nathan's Lemonade Chugging competition was Eric "Badlands" Booker handily beating the competition by consuming 1 Gallon of Nathan's Lemonade setting a new world record of 21-seconds.

Noticeably absent from the festivities was Joey Chestnut, 16 time champion and current world record holder of 76 hot dogs and buns. Earlier this year, Chestnut signed an endorsement contract with plant-based, meat substitute manufactures Impossible Foods, Inc. Since Impossible Foods produces vegan hot dogs it placed him at odds with Nathan's Famous beef-only hot dogs. Major League Eating (MLE) ultimately scratch Chestnut from defending his championship.

In total, Bertoletti's performance resulted in 9,860 and 7,540 calories from the hot dogs and buns respectfully. Ultimately consuming a 17,400 calories. Sudo likewise consumed 15,300 calories total. Due to the potentially life threatening side effects of consuming food in such a short period of time, MLE has placed stringent safety policies requiring medical professionals be present throughout the event to quickly attend to participants.
