Zwobot ← ZwoBot

[edit]

ZwoBot is my bot account (my normal user account is Head, but I'm mostly active on de: Head). For automated interwiki placement, I have bot accounts for a total of 118 languages. English is the only language where the name 'Zwobot' was taken. As you can read on User:Zwobot, it has been intentionally grabbed in 2004 with the intention of misleading people and vandalizing.

All pages created by the vandal were promptly deleted, and the only edit left is the one with which the user page was created. The user has been permanently blocked since 2005. As it is clear that this is only a vandal account, I have not notified the vandal that I'd like to usurp the username.

Having identical usernames on all sites would be very useful, especially when thinking of the single login system that is under development. --Head

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation.
  • The target username has Wikipedia user logs entries. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation.
  •  Clerk note: This username was blocked indefinitely because it was a Willy on wheels vandal sock. As pretty much everything from this user got deleted, there aren't any GNU FDL issues. Block log entries don't get moved. —O () 02:13, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Block logs don't move with renaming so we'd have to unblock the name and reblock the usurped name. I think this is fine, and we don't obviously have to wait the 7 days, but I'd like a second opinion as a sanity check. Secretlondon 03:29, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done User:Zwobot unblocked, and User:Zwobot (usurped) reblocked. Secretlondon 06:25, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Porcupine ← Rambutan

[edit]
Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username does not have an email address specified.

Clerk note: The user requesting usurpation has an extensive blocklog. And yes, deleting the pages instead of making redirects is possible I believe, but if it is to prevent connection between the two accounts, be aware that the rename wil be logged. i said 13:36, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I've changed my mind; please do not delete the Rambutan redirects, just leave it like a normal rename. Thanks.--Rambutan (talk) 12:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine about the rename-log, but please make sure not to just delete my userspace, but move it first!. Does my blocklog have any effect - bearing in mind that I also have a highly extensive unblock log? Plus, I have now notified the user that I'm requesting usurpation.--Rambutan (talk) 15:19, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also note that not counting the blocks by Phil Sandifer, he has only been blocked twice, and unblocked once. Melsaran (talk) 17:03, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why would we discount Phil Sandifer? Did these users have a conflict? i said 06:20, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup!--Rambutan (talk) 06:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does this conflict invalidate the legimiacy of his blocks? And do you have a link to the discussion? i said 06:20, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is actually totally irrelevant, save for the fact that most of his blocks of me were undone fairly soon after they set in, and there are lots of users around to certify this, including Melsaran above, Sceptre, Matthew... take a peep at my talk archives and his for info. But it doesn't affect this anyway.--Rambutan (talk) 07:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is not irrelevant. Problematic users have been denied usurpations in the past. I'm not accusing you of being one, however your blocklog is rather extensive, and Phil Sandifer's blocks were not undone because they were in error, but because the situation had changed. I'm not a bureaucrat, so I cannot decide whether or not the rename will be disallowed because of blocklogs, but I thought I'd point it out. I believe that blocklogs do not move on renames, so they may deny it because your blocklog (both valid ones and invalid ones) would be lost. i said 23:58, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Most of his blocks were undone because they were in error, or too harsh, or he was considered to simply be biased. What are the chances of the "situation changing" on so many blocks? Plus, I genuinely didn't know about the blocklog loss; why is that?--Rambutan (talk) 07:51, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know, the developers haven't been able to do it? At any rate, I guess we'll just have to wait for the 18th to see if a bureaucrat is bothered enough by the blocklog. i said 22:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Target has no deleted edits. Flyguy649 talk contribs 06:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: Actually we can block the new account for 1 second with a link to the old block log - this has previously satisfied the arbcomm that the block log wasn't lost. Secretlondon 03:31, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. My concern was the user has a blocklog with several correct blockings. If the bureacrats don't believe that the blocklog itself, not that it will be lost, then I'm all good. i said 03:34, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could this possibly be done? Thanks!--Rambutan (talk) 16:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I had seen no reasons stated on some other requests when I started this but I should probably have stated a reason for my request rightaway (but perhaps it is already obvious). I have used the name arcimboldo on my home WP (the German one) and the other Wikis that I've registered for(and in particular for my uploads on commons) and am also known as arcimboldo_ on the chat but for my - admittedly more sporadically used - account on the English Wikipedia I had not been able to do so since it had already been registered by someone else. -- Jungletiger 04:52, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Reason for request: Primarily the reason for my request is that I am well known and accustomed to using Jamie on Wikia.com.
The secondary reason is that although I don't mind my last name being displayed for the world to see, I would prefer to be known as 'Jamie'. It is a more personal and concise username.
The account I am requesting to usurp has never been used in any edits, otherwise I would not have made this request.
I thank you for your consideration.

Arakunem ← Saturn 5

[edit]

I am the owner of both accounts. I had lost the login info for the original, so created this account a month or so ago. Since then I have re-located the login info for the original account, and would very much like to combine these 2 back into one under the original name. I have been much more active on this account than the other, hence this request as opposed to invoking Vanish on the newer account. You will notice the email account is the same for both, and I will sign below on the other account. Thanks! (Signing on a leter edit, as I thought the template included it.) Saturn 5 20:37, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And I do understand that the accounts would not be combined per se. But as I've actually created an article under Saturn 5, I would prefer that those edits follow me to the Arakunem account. Thanks again! Arakunem 20:35, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: We cannot combine anything. It would be Saturn 5->Arakunem, and Arakunem ->Arakunem (usurped). is this what you want? Secretlondon 23:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sorry. "Combine" was a poor choice of words. I meant combining my current edit history with the other username. I understand that the edits from the other account will remain under the (usurped) suffix. The changes you just described are exactly what I am requesting. Thanks! Well, I always prefer to register as "Artyom" on different resources on the internet I'm interested in, and have the accounts with that name on Commons and Simple English by now, though not using them as much yet. The reason for choosing "Artyx" when registering is that is the first thing that I came up with when I couldn't register "Artyom", although I don't like "Artyx" as much. Also deleted the pages you created at User:Noor Aalam and User talk:Noor Aalam (which were automoved to User:Noor Aalam (usurped) and User talk:Noor Aalam (usurped)), since they were just copies of your user and user talk pages, which have now been moved to the correct pagename (with full histories). Err no you have to wait the full time - and I want more information. You told me that you made a new account as you lost the password to the other one. You haven't told us what the old account was, or provided any proof of that. I note that Raul654 resysopped you as your old account was an admin, but I don't know how you proved that. This doesn't really help. Secretlondon 17:05, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jbeach posted on WR that he used IRC, and with the same mask + password from before, I'm pretty sure that proved that Jbeach was Jaranda. hbdragon88 23:23, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Provided he is Jaranda, the renaming can be done immediately, surely? The required week waiting time has already passed with the first request, and the only reason that one was denied was because he was, at that time, seen as a new editor. i (talk) 02:02, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I'd like to super make sure this is the username I want before going through with it. I thought I was, but my usual indecision has set in. So I'd rather not be renamed just yet. So can we consider this request suspended? Thanks. i (talk) 03:58, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are better off without a gimmicky username, but that may just be me. You are a decent contributor with a silly name.. Secretlondon 17:11, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The name isn't silly, Secretlondon. It was just a personal preference of the user, it is not for us to judge usernames. Cheers :) Qst 17:15, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well as I is having trouble making up his mind, the opinions of others may help... Personally, I agree that Soleil would be a better name. I deal with more single letter usernames than most people as a lot of you helpfully clerk these boards having been renamed here - I confess that I do occasionally get confused as to which of you is which and have to look up your old usernames to tell you apart. I is fine as a username (otherwise you wouldn't have been renamed to it) but if you're asking what others think - I prefer Soleil (you'll still have User:I as a redirect your userpage)... WjBscribe 17:23, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I too prefer Soleil to I. It's just simpler overall, and you'll still get redirected to your userpage if you search User:I, and keep all your edit count and whatnot. — jacĸrм (talk) 17:42, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I know. I do want a new username, I am aware of the concerns about my current one, for instance what Secretlondon often says about single letter names. I'm just not sure what I would like to change it to. I wouldn't have my name changed a fourth time, so I want to make sure what name I really want. I'll probably end up going with Soleil, but I hadn't decided for sure during the week, so I'll probably just ask a bureaucrat if I do decide on Soleil, as the week has already passed. i (talk) 18:58, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to delete the redirect at User:Jack, provided someone changes all the links to the page currently (given Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Jack) to links to User:Jeandré du Toit. There's only 44, and that includes one of the links from this page. --Deskana (talk) 02:08, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll wait to see if I get the username before changing anything on talk pages. I don't want to change them all now only to find I don't get the username. Plus changing 44 signings will be tedious, will it be possible to get a bot to do this? — jacĸrм (talk) 03:01, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • As this account has made 6 edits, it does not meet the standard requirements for usurpation. Given the latest of those edits was in May 2004 and all were to the account's own userspace, there are no GFDL or other issues with this request. A bureaucrat may therefore be willing to perform the request as a matter of discretion.

Your account has made few edits to the project - usurpation is generally reserved for established users so we can make sure common names will be put to good use. If this request is declined on that basis, you may wish to ask again when you have contributed more substantially to Wikipedia. WjBscribe 00:48, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WJB and thanks for your prompt reply. I am a newbie to English Wikipedia, but I am active on other projects, e.g. I am an administrator of the Polish chapter nicknamed "pundit", I also sporadically contribute to Wikimedia. As I thought of increasing my contributions to en-wiki, and as the account of "pundit" has not been used, I thought I could perhaps kindly request taking my activity in other wiki projects into account in the usurpation petition. Integration of nicknames on wikiprojects somebody is active on surely does make some sense, and (be the petition positively considered) I believe it also is reasonable to contribute from the very start under the same nickname. In any case, thanks for your consideration. Englishpundit 00:51, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise - had I taken the time to look at your userpage I would have seen you had substantial contributions to another project. There shouldn't be any problem with a bureaucrat peforming the rename in these circumstances. WjBscribe 01:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The current owner of the username has been notified of this usurpation request.
  • The current owner of this username does not have an email address specified.
While I believe that edits to userspace and usertalk pages are sometimes waived, I do not know if this applies to article talk pages. In addition, while you have edited constructively since the original request, it has not been extensive. Also, as the notification on the requested name's talk page was placed several months ago, should a bureaucrat be willing to disregard the edits, it can probably be done without the requisite week waiting time. We shall have to see what a bureaucrat thinks. I (talk) 06:33, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a bureaucrat, but my understanding is that if any edits from the target account were not reverted quikcly, that username is unavailable for usurpation. If they were reverted quickly (which in this case, they weren't) it would make the target username possibility for usurpation. I'm sorry but it seems unlikely this will be performed. Qst 21:12, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. After some thought, I'm going to allow this one. It seems to me that on talkpages attribution can be given through signatures as well as through the page history - a note such as this one should be more than enough to comply with the requirements of the GFDL. The target account has been inactive for over 2 years and only edited for a couple of minutes. This is however at the extreme limit of what I consider to be a valid request.
