Horse cats

[edit]

Say, just an FYI that it would be much appreciated if you could ping WikiProject Equine (WPEQ) when you are recommending changes in the horse/equine categories. I don't see a problem with the recent one upmerging Horse burials to Category:Horses in culture and religion, but it's lots easier to weigh in at the time than to request a redetermination later... this has been kind of a problem lately -- I have many of the horse cats watchlisted, but not all, and often we pick up on this only after some change has been made. Some of the categories unquestionably would benefit from streamlining and cleanup, but knowing what's up allows WPEQ to weigh in - sometimes with suggestions that would be helpful. Better yet, do it before and you might get us to help support you (at least when we agree). Montanabw(talk) 07:44, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will. If you can also make sure WPEQ is on the category talk pages, it makes it easier to know who to notify. Thank for your feedback! RevelationDirect (talk) 10:59, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There are several hundred categories there, many are tagged, not all are. Anyone who wants to help is welcome to do so. In the meantime, the word "horse" or "equine" or "equestrian" should be a dead giveaway!  ;-) Montanabw(talk) 20:39, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Windows category

[edit]

Hi, I was about to withdraw my nomination at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_June_23#Category:Discontinued_versions_of_Microsoft_Windows , but you have added your view there. Would you object if I closed it as Withdrawn? – Fayenatic London 06:07, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. RevelationDirect (talk) 14:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, all the more for stating so at the CfD page. – Fayenatic London 16:51, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AAMCO Transmissions

[edit]

Hi, I posted a proposed update to the AAMCO page here Talk:AAMCO Transmissions/proposed update

I had noticed that you'd done some work on other transmission related pages for the automobiles project, and hoped that you'd be able to help me get these edits applied.

Thanks! Stefannagey (talk) 16:32, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,, thank you for the improvements to the article. It's a little counter-intuitive but Wikipedia doesn't allow citations from sites that are user generated (like Wikipedia!) so I would get rid of the Youtube citation per WP:NOYT. Otherwise I think this is an improvement and don't see an issue moving this to the article page. RevelationDirect (talk) 01:39, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your guidance! I've modified the reference to cite a story in the Philadelphia Business Journal. Please let me know what else I can do to move this forward! Stefannagey (talk) 16:02, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would move the edits to the production; they're clearly better than what's there now. For the basics of editing, Wikipedia:Tutorial and Wikipedia:GLAM/Beginner's guide to Wikipedia can be helpful. (They can also be tedious in a few places because they are real basic.) RevelationDirect (talk) 02:32, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Textile machinery

[edit]

Hi- you have been recently re-categorising most things connected to cotton. Just a thought- most of these article haven't been assessed- would you fancy having a go for Wikipedia:WikiProject Mills? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClemRutter (talkcontribs) 09:10, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@ClemRutter: I started with a smaller group with Category:Silk mills and the subcategory. Most of them weren't tagged with Wikipedia:WikiProject Mills at all and I added the ratings. One thing that is challenging is that the British mills tend to have a lot more information than the American ones so I rated them as more important; it's possible though that stub articles have an important topic but it's hard to tell. Let me know how I did. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:45, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the compliment- it took a lot of hard work to do that!-- Clem Rutter (talk) 08:24, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think the first task was to attack the backlog- and that you have done. Establishing importance will always be difficult as we have such a wide group of mills silk, cotton, wool, grain, pugmills. If we take the larger mills- then importance is enhanced by it being the first of type, last of type and it being involved in a nationally important event. I am biased, coming from a cotton mill area and may overemphasise the importance- knowing that when the mill closes a town dies- so if the town is important then the mill must be too. However, one town may have a dozen mills (or more) and they cannot all be of equal importance! I am quite happy to leave the decision to you. Equally, mills can be unloved and no-one has enough interest in them to do them justice- hence the stub. From our POV the stub doesn't give enough information to allow us to assess their importance! -- Clem Rutter (talk) 11:14, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have a concept which I put forward from time to time that, to my mind, would solve the category problem under discussion. I have put it on that page and I would be very pleased if you would read it and comment. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 07:32, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great! I'll take a look. RevelationDirect (talk) 03:18, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Textile workers

[edit]

This doesn't sound right- Aunt Flossy at her sewing machine is a textile worker but an entrepreneur who devised new process is an Inventor- I don't think one category can catch them all- at least I can't think of the heading for one. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 08:28, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello! I've removed the WikiProject Maths rating template you added to this category, not because it was incorrect but because the maths project actually doesn't keep track of categories (or disambiguation pages, redirects, templates, books, portals...). Having it tagged for maths would mean that it would become a permanently unclassified page, causing confusion and untidiness in keeping up with the state of the maths project. For most other WikiProjects you'd have been spot on, but the maths project only tracks mainspace articles. Didn't want the revert to seem like a slap in the face! Thanks for contributing to the encyclopedia! Bryanrutherford0 (talk) 13:16, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Laplets category

[edit]

Hello, fellow editor. Are you still insist on deletion of laplets category? TranslucentCloud (talk) 14:38, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I still have concerns that the category may not be defining, although I have no problem with the article. It doesn't look like my nomination is gaining much traction though. RevelationDirect (talk) 01:33, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

São Tomé and Príncipe

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you are part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Sao Tome and Principe. Can you speak Portugese? São Tomé and Príncipe is one of the only countries that we don't have copyright information on in the article List of countries' copyright lengths. I think that the answer is in this document. Would you please be able to find out the copyright term in São Tomé and Príncipe? Orthogonal1 (talk) 08:53, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Progressive Field

[edit]

Help!!!! I have the website for the reference on the new ballpark capacity of 38,000 starting in 2015, but it will not let me put the reference in. The reference is http://m.indians.mlb.com/news/article/88402468/changes-coming-to-progressive-field. Can you help me??????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.56.201.135 (talk) 07:13, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@184.56.201.135: Hello, I added the citation to the infobox for you. (I assume that's where it was needed). I'm not sure what the problem was as that page doesn't seem to have any protection/vandalism issues. I've heard other anonymous/IP editors mention similar problems though so you might want to consider registering an account to make things easier. Up to you. Nominated Levantine-Greek Orthodox Christianity for speedy deletion

[edit]

Hi RevelationDirect,

Though I appreciate your efforts in resolving the issue with the cats, I don't believe this page to be worthy of mainspace. It has no content; no references; and defines a term that is, allegedly, only used on Wikipedia. 213.7.227.83 (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@213.7.227.83: Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 December 16#Category:People of Levantine-Greek Orthodox Christian descent to find other ways to revolve the category issues. Thanks RevelationDirect (talk) 03:55, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
